Gifting Laughter: Middle School Graphic Novels for Christmas

Do you need ideas for stocking stuffers this year? Humor has long been recognized as a powerful tool for learning and development, particularly in the formative years of a child’s life. Humorous books, like the SNOTS Call of Doody, with their witty narratives and playful language, do more than just entertain; they can profoundly impact young minds by fostering creativity, enhancing emotional intelligence, and encouraging a love for reading.

When kids engage with humorous stories, they are invited into a world of imagination and whimsy. The clever wordplay, absurd scenarios, and comical characters stimulate their cognitive abilities, prompting them to think critically and creatively. This playful engagement encourages them to understand context, recognize patterns, and even develop problem-solving skills as they navigate the twists and turns of humorous plots.

Moreover, the laughter elicited by funny middle school graphic novels serves as a bonding experience for children, whether they share the book with friends or family. This shared joy strengthens relationships and helps children learn empathy and social skills as they discuss characters’ antics and explore different perspectives.

Additionally, humorous middle school graphic novels often tackle serious themes light-heartedly, making it easier for young readers to grasp complex subjects such as friendship, resilience, and the often challenging aspects of growing up. By laughing through relatable experiences, children can better process their emotions and gain valuable insights into their lives.

In summary, introducing children to humorous literature is not merely a way to keep them entertained; it is a thoughtful approach to nurturing their emotional and intellectual development. By gifting young readers with laughter, we provide tools that foster resilience, creativity, and a lifelong love for reading.

The SNOTS, A Silly Graphic Novel for Middle Schoolers

What are the SNOTS, anyway? The SNOTS, the Superpixel Ninja Officer Tweens of Space, are an elite group of video gamers who protect the universe from the bad guys using their Super Game Dudes. Only the best video gamers may join the SNOTS.

Why are video games so crucial to the SNOTS? They use Superpixels found only in the 64-bit Zone to power their Super Game Dudes. These allow for power-ups and the creation of anything the user can imagine in video game form.

The number one-ranked video gamer runs the show. Currently, that is a young man named Newton Beam. As commander of the SNOTS, it is his duty, or doody, to lead the fight. Though Newton is a fantastic athlete, his brainpower is lacking.

Luckily, his droid, IPP2, keeps him in line. The Interactive Player Patrol Unit #2, IPP2, is often the voice of reason. He is a grounding force to the silliness that surrounds him.

Rusty and Kitty Crumb's sibling rivalry is at the forefront of this story. Can these two find a way to get along? Or will the brother and sister's constant bickering spell doom?

A hero story is only complete with an evil bad guy. Baron Buttz, the Prince of Pranks, is the foul antagonist in Call of Doody. Will his evil prank prevail, sending the Earth into eternal stinkiness? Or will the SNO save the day?

The SNOTS books are fun for both kids and parents. Some of the best times I have ever had with my kids were reading similar books like Captain Underpants, Dogman, or The Bad Guys. The SNOTS books are silly, fun-filled video game adventures.

Have fun and smile a lot! Stay silly!

Graphic Novels, Comic Books, Love of Reading, and Gobbledygook.

David Mansch Illustration

I've been a fan of comic books for as long as I can remember, with Marvel being my favorite when I was growing up. I felt a connection with the characters, especially the younger ones who were socially awkward and shy. While I never gained superpowers like them, comic books served as both an escape and a source of companionship for me.

As I grew older, I became an avid reader, delving into the works of authors like Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams. Their books quickly became my favorites, and I was fascinated to learn that Stan Lee intended to create a connection with his readers through his characters.

As a father, I made it a point to share my love of reading with my kids. We would read together every night, and as they got older, we ventured into kids' graphic novels, creating some of my best memories with Jake and Allyson.

This experience inspired me to create my own graphic novel series. I wanted to make something that would be fun for families to enjoy together. So, I sat down and brought my characters to life, and after three years of hard work, The SNOTS were born.

I hope that readers have as much fun reading "Call of Doody" as I did creating it. There's more silliness on the way, as I'm already working on the next book in the series. Stay silly, my friends!
