Now WHAT to buy Dad for Fathers’ Day? How about a Ripping Read? Perhaps “Nor the Years Condemn” by Justin Sheedy…

A Ripping Read? Well, please don’t take it from Me… No. Please, however, see the latest reviews of my book, “Nor the Years Condemn” , from blokes who’ve just read it…

A MAGNETIC TAKE!
Reader Review by Paddy O’Connor, UK…
“I found this tale absolutely magnetic… His writing is highly readable and the storyline maintained my interest right from the beginning. His research was obviously long and deep, for the authenticity of locations, the excitement of the fight sequences, the overall strategic needs & detail and the general run of the plot made a brilliantly enjoyable book which ended with really quite unexpected pathos that was entirely in keeping with the spirit of the story. Happily, he avoided being drawn into the trap of broadening the two obvious love elements, yet managed to provide an interest in that direction by capturing the war-time emotional need for immediacy rather than the measured courting of less stressful times. I say all this, not because the author and I become ‘friends’ on Facebook following a mutual (UK) friend’s recommendation of the book but because what I say is exactly what I feel – and I look forward greatly to reading the sequel… Keep writing Justin Sheedy – you tell a brilliant tale.”

My Heart-felt thanks to Paddy.

BEST BOOK I EVER READ (?!)
Reader response from Logan Meddler Dehn, Indiana, USA…
“Justin, I absolutely LOVED your book. Every detail all fits together to make an amazing, compelling, and fascinating story! The best book I’ve ever read! I almost felt like I was there; I could see every scene in my mind and almost feel the rumble of the Spitfire’s engines. I would recommend this book to anyone!”

Sincere cheers to Logan! “Nor the Years Condemn” is currently available at DYMOCKS BOOKSTORE, George Street, Sydney (and orderable from the link).

Please see below the write-up for the book at the Dymocks retail website…

At the beginning of World War II, Britain was in the deepest trouble imaginable. 5 minutes flying time away crouched a monster. Alone against it, Britain called out to her Empire. For pilots. From all corners of that Empire, they volunteered. Only the best & brightest were chosen. Australian Daniel Quinn was one of these young men who came to fly against the monster. They had a 1-in-3 chance of survival.

“Nor the Years Condemn” is based on the true story of the young Australians who flew Spitfires against the all-conquering might of Nazi Germany. In their late teens and early-20s, for the job at hand they had to be the ‘shining ones’, rendering the death of so many of them doubly heart-rending for the reader. Daniel Quinn, flanked by the often hilarious young men of his elite ilk, leaves his peacetime life behind to fight tyranny in this portrait of doomed, brilliant youth.

With in-the-cockpit flying sequences that readers have described as ‘cinematic’, “Nor the Years Condemn” is also a story of the mothers cursed to relinquish their wonderful sons to war, of first love, of strategic deception and betrayal, of brotherhood and once-in-a-lifetime friendship on a knife’s edge. It is a story of shining young men destined never to become old, and of those who do: the survivors ‘condemned by the years’, and to their memory of friends who remain forever young.

So there you go, folks. Once again my eminent thanks to the above reader-reviewers. Please do consider my book for Fathers’ Day, and wishing a great and happy Day to all Dads. – Justin Sheedy, August 2012.

Bookstore Event for “Nor the Years Condemn” by Justin Sheedy a Resounding Success at Dymocks North Sydney

I had SUCH a good day this last Friday 24 August at the in-store event for my book “Nor the Years Condemn” at Dymocks North Sydney. I led up to & began the day with great trepidation as to whether my book would sell in quantities sufficient to impress the store’s management. IT SOLD LIKE HOTCAKES. (For overseas readers, Dymocks is the leading chain of bookstores in Australia.)

Store manager Sandra Wigzell was a gem, and her staff were a brilliant support. The North Sydney public were even better: Just for example, local IT developer, Chris, who bought a copy early in the day, sent his co-workers down to get their copy too and passed by a few times during the day shouting out “This is an excellent book, people, pick up a copy!” One delightful young lady executive picked up a copy and came back about twice more to pick up more for her colleagues, the day ending at 5:30 with another young woman standing with me helping me spruik to people on their way home.

It was also hugely nice to be visited during the day by my old friends, Alison and Steve Guthrie, Matthew Green, Martin Reyerink and David Chisholm – who took me for a celebratory beer at the end. Dymocks North Sydney have invited me back for Christmas week and manager Sandra will be recommending me to Dymocks Macquarie Centre for a similar event.

So, in the lead-up to Fathers’ Day, please do keep in mind that my book “Nor the Years Condemn” is now stocked by Dymocks North Sydney, still at Dymocks George St Sydney, and will be at Dymocks Chatswood just as soon as I can get it to them this week. Massive thanks to Collette McGrath for setting up the radio interview on Northside FM last Thursday to publicise the event.

NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN – An Historical Fiction based on 10 years’ research of a true story so exciting, so tragic, in a word, so dramatic, as to defy belief. And yet it’s True…

2014 Fathers’ Day Lead-Up Book-Signings by Sydney Author Justin Sheedy

On the eve of Fathers’ Day 2014, Justin Sheedy will be signing copies of his World War II historical fictions, Nor the Years Condemn and Ghosts of the Empire, which bring to life a staggeringly exciting, tragic and true story of young Australians at war with even LESS chance of survival than if they had been in the trenches of Gallipoli or the Western Front.

Superb Fathers’ Day reading, Nor the Years Condemn tells the story of Sydney Uni Rugby Union player, Daniel Quinn, who leaves his peace time life behind to fly Spitfires against Nazi tyranny in Sheedy’s portrait of doomed, brilliant youth.

Ghosts of the Empire, Book 2 in the series, is the saga of Sydney tradie, Mick O’Regan, who takes on the most dangerous job of World War II: flying for RAF Bomber Command. These are stories in our great ANZAC tradition – only at 400 miles per hour – and until now untold.

Event 1: Berkelouw Books Leichhardt, 70 Norton Street, Leichhardt, Saturday 30 August 2014. Bookings/Enquiries: (02) 9560 3200 or leichhardt@berkelouw.com.au

Event 2: Dymocks Chatswood, Shop 301 Westfield Shopping Centre, Chatswood, Thursday 4 September 2014 from 5pm.

Event 3: Dymocks Chatswood, Saturday 6 September 2014 from 10am. Bookings/Enquiries: (02) 9412 1630 or chatswood@dymocks.com.au

Sheedy looks forward to sharing his passion for great Australian stories with Sydney book-lovers at these in-store events and especially to signing copies of his books for their dear Dads for Fathers’ Day 2014.

BOOK LAUNCH! “No Greater Love” by Justin Sheedy – Sat 3 Sept 2016 at Dymocks Sydney

On the eve of Fathers’ Day 2016, Justin Sheedy will be launching his latest historical novel, "No Greater Love". Bringing to vivid life true Australian war history and events, it is a saga of the drama, beauty, heroism and horror of a young Australian Spitfire pilot’s war journey through stunning Malta, Egypt and North Africa, Sicily, England and Europe. It is a portrait of the once-in-a-lifetime characters the war places on his path, of the tragic, wholesale waste of war, on occasion even the profound humanity of his enemy.

Though concluding Sheedy’s now highly acclaimed World War Two trilogy (all titles available on the day), "No Greater Love" is the stand-alone full story of Book 1’s reader-favourite character, Aussie rough diamond Colin Stone. It is the story of his loyalty and devotion to his friends, of his enduring love for the mother who abandoned him, and his dreams of being held by her once again.

Date: Saturday 3 September 2016
Time: From 10am
Venue: Dymocks Sydney, 424 – 430 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000
Cost: Free (no bookings required)
