New Age Movement - Its History, People, Ideas
Spirituality is constantly evolving, but there was never such time like the current one, when the evolution of the mass media allowed the spiritual ideas and practices to become so wide spread. With the industrial revolution of the XIX century, the spiritual revolution came as well.
Since the XIX century, different traditions of the world evolve, mix together and become more popular than ever before. Since I write about spirituality, healing or magick, it was necessary to do a lot of research into the history of the things I write about.
As a side effect of this work, I have prepared a short mini-book that covers the basic history of the New Age movement with its main ideas, events, people and concepts.
You can find a free, Creative Commons book on Scribd, using the link below. And you can download it and share it whatever way you like.

What Have I Learned from "The Secret"
"The Secret" is a well known book. Or a movie. Actually, the movie came first, and the book came later, I just prefer books. It's a perfect gift for me, but it may have something to do with the fact that I'm an author myself. Anyway, in this article, I will refer to The Secret as a book. And it's a very important book in my personal library. I categorize it as a book from "New Thought" category, which is strongly influenced by New Age ideas.
I may be quite critical about a lot of things New Age, but The Secret is something that I call "the other side of the coin". There is a lot of fluffy and dangerous stuff within New Age ideas, but The Secret is representing the other side of the New Age ideology, a very positive side. This very small and lovely book with beautiful illustrations is still a very simple book about The Law of Attration. This book is not enough to learn about The Law of Attraction so that you can use this spiritual law for your own gain, but at the same time, this book is enough to present you the basics. To inspire you! This is something I love about this book, and some other New Age books – they inspire!
The term "Law of Attraction" may even sound a bit fluffy, but there is something about "The Secret" that I love. The already-mentioned way the book inspires its readers.
The Inspiring Secret
The book presents the basic informations that you need to figure out what this Law of Attraction is and how to use it. It may not be all, but it's enough to learn the basics. And the book does a great job with explaining the basics. It uses a simple terms, a simple language and simple metaphors which direct this work to normal folks, not just occult experts. Thus, "The Secret" is a quarantee of inspirations, if not "spiritual awakening".
The Secret was the first book I've read which directed me to the concept of attracting things and consciously shaping my life. At the time, I was still fascinated by New Age ideas, and not advanced spiritual paths with its ups and downs, pros and cons. But The Secret was a start for me. And it was a great beginning.
This book, and others, did something to me. I could name many New Age books that had inspired me to explore spirituality deeper and deeper. "The Healing Energies of Earth" are one of such books. These works tought me something. I've learned that the market is full of small, simple books that can inspire its readers to explore alternative spiritual ideas and concepts. These books are not enough to learn safe and effective practice, but they're enough to inspire the seekers of knowledge and wisdoms.
This makes me say: read and enjoy the New Age books. Some of them are awesome! Others are simple but inspiring. But every book will teach you something, or inspire you for further spiritual pursuits. Some of the books may be sugar-coated, or fluffy, but they may still inspire you for something greater.
And that may be enough for you to start your alternative spiritual journey.

Libraries, oh Libraries
Today I wish to share some thoughts about Libraries with you...
Terry Pratchett shaped my view upon Libraries as places of magical power, in wnich, due to the presence of books, the very time and space continuum changes constantly. Umberto Eco shaped my view upon Libraries as places of great wisdom and contemplation, in which the great mysteries of life can be understood.
Physical books have magick and wisdom within them, and Libraries create a form of sacred space to anyone, who is willing to open his mind to the great power of books. A Library is a true Library if it preserves knowledge and shapes a place, where wisdom and life passion can be shared with people.
To me, Libraries are not simple places where books and newspapers are being stored. To me, a Library represent one of the characteristics of mankind - our curiosity and our quest for wisdom. I dream of creating such library, where people could come not to rent a ladies novel, but to explore their human nature with all its benefits: creativity, passion and curiosity towards exploration of the world.
For the same reasons I love Libraries, I feel painful emotions, where these great places of knowledge are being turned into warehouses, nothing more. I can clearly see it in Poland, where Libraries become nothing more than places where books are stored, and a small percentage of the population rent books for relaxation, and not the self-improvement.
I can see the warehouse nature of Libraries in many forms, but most obvious element is how place for new books is created. A true library should create new space once it cannot store any more books. But these days, libraries - those in Poland, at least, destroy old books that are no longer rented by people, to make space for new books. Hundreds of thousands of books are being destroyed every year because they're out of vogue...
Libraries seem to forget about their true purpose... No longer they're temples of wisdom and human spirit. They become nothing more than commercial stores where only popular books are allowed, but even those popular books will be destroyed one day...
What have we come to...

Working on New Books
For those interested in "what's going on" I wish to say that currently, I'm working on two new books. The first one, a small one, is (as it's nearly done) a guidebook to the practice of the first degree of Reiki. Within a bit over 100 pages, I share the essentials of the Reiki practice for beginners.
But there's something bigger I work on - the book about the basics, the essentials of magical practice, a guide to common elements of all magical systems, from Buddhism to Asatru to Wicca and modern New Age paths. On nearly 300 pages of texts, you will learn everything there is to know about the first steps on the path of magick.
With a bit of luck, both books should be published at the end of May, 2013.
