I was honored to be part of the writing team that launched Netflix Tudum, Netflix’s fan-focused marketing website. It was a genuine thrill to work on lifestyle content at Tudum, where I had the privilege of working with brilliant people; putting together incredibly fun content about style, costumes, books, and even choreography; and interviewing the amazing folks who make movies and shows that are beloved the world over.

As some of you might know, I’m from Southwest Missouri originally, and I had the opportunity to interview local TV news celebrity Joe Daues for the area’s lifestyle magazine, 417. In the razzle-dazzle field of media, you never know with whom you might end up working and when. What I know for a fact is that I’m grateful for the supremely talented, kind colleagues I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside lately, both in 2019 and in the New Twenties.

Who doesn’t love an unconventional travel story, especially when it involves midcentury architecture? Or is that just me?

In May, I was fortunate enough to write about my first impressions of the newly restored TWA Hotel at New York City’s JFK Airport for Budget Travel.

I’m a huge fan of architect Eero Saarinen’s work — especially his Gateway Arch in St. Louis — so entering the refurbished TWA Flight Center (originally opened in 1962) was a once-in-a-lifetime experience I’ll never forget. Read all about it on Budget Travel’s website or in PDF form here.

This piece reminds me of my other favorite midcentury-focused travel story, Mad Men Travel Destinations, which I wrote back in 2015, in anticipation of Mad Men‘s last seven episodes. (View the PDF here.)

There are about zillion reasons I’m excited about one of my latest writing projects, Mindfulness Made Simple, a special-interest publication created by Teamstream Productions for Bauer Publishing…but I’ll stick to telling you about only three of them:

First, it was a pleasure to be a writer on this magazine and be a part of a team consisting of so many topflight veteran magazine journalists, photography mavens, and design whizzes. Second, immersing myself in this subject matter definitely made me a more mindful person; therefore, I can personally vouch for the usefulness of this giant, info-packed guide.

And third, my first full-time job with benefits in magazine journalism was also at a Bauer publication, First for Women, an experience that taught me so much about research, voice, audience, and translating sometimes-complex information into useful, readable, accurate — and, most importantly, fun — copy.
