Bird Neshama Trungma is the founder and teacher of Dharma Yeshiva in New York City, an organization whose goal is to unite Buddhist wisdom with the beauty and warmth of the Western Judaic-Christian traditions, and to present Buddhist teachings within a non-hierarchical environment based upon merit, where everyone has an opportunity to fulfill their Buddha-nature and to shine.

Her second major interest is working to bring about a radical change in the Western paradigm of mind as brain and the medical model of mental illness which results from that paradigm.
