How is the time change working for your fur-kid?
Taken from my book, from the dogs perspective: Dog Knows Best
TIME YES, SOMETHING AS simple as time can be an issue between you and your human. Time has been around since, you guessed it, the beginning of time. I am sure you are trying to wrap your canine brains around how a human can muddle up something as simple as this. Allow me to share this fact with you. The hands of time have been out there doing quite well, ticking away for at least a bazillion years. However, the human breed could not keep their hands off something that was already running smoothly. No, they created what they call daylight saving time. Once again, my extensive research into human and canine behavior has shown that daylight saving time has caused more confusion between our human counterparts and us than anything else. I have to paw it to them, as they did come up with some cutesy little phrases. In autumn we are to fall back and in the springtime we are to spring forward. Needless to say, that is the only redeemable quality of this stupid concept. Take, for example, the fall, when they say “fall back.” My breakfast and dinner times are an hour later, as I am sure yours are. That’s not to mention potty time, my walk, naptime, treats, and my bedtime. In the spring, we are to spring forward. You’re doggone right we want to spring forward, duh! We canines are so thrilled to be back on track and to put this idiotic system of time behind us. For months, we keep our paws crossed that mankind will never again expect canines to endure this. However, as the leaves turn from green to shades of gold and then begin to fall, once again so does the time. For the record, we are not the only ones confused by this time manipulation, oh no. Critters around the globe are quite confused by the absolute craziness. The sun and the moon did not get the memo, either. Have you ever tried to go to sleep when the sun is still beaming a ray of light through the bedroom drapes? I might as well be in the direct path of the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas with its 40-billion-candlepower sky beam aimed directly at my bed. We pups need our beauty rest! And daylight saving time is not the only issue involving time that drives a wedge between us and our humans. Try traveling with your human from the East Coast to the West Coast or vice versa. Your stomach is on a highly calibrated canine clock that knows no time zone except its own. Go to Grandma’s house on the West Coast for the week and now your dinnertime is three hours later. H-E-L-L-O, it simply does not work that way!
