Gary Heyn was raised on a family farm near Rochester Minnesota. As a boy he was fascinated by the stories of his Great Grandmother Lydia Heyn about the “olden days”. Those afternoons on the front porch sparked a life-long interest in history and genealogy.
He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. In 2019 he retired as the Vice-President of Corporate Governance for Tolomatic a Minneapolis manufacturing company.
After retirement, he returned to the University of Minnesota to complete a degree in history. For a class in creative non-fiction writing he wrote several of the family stories in had been collecting as an essay for the class. The class’s positive reception to his assignment inspired him to continue.
