Excerpt: Azure's Premonition - Free Read
Here's a taste of my free sweet African-American romantic short.
Azure's Premonition
Azure's smiling...but for how long?
Cost: Free 2 Read
Winter's in the air. But Azure's chill isn't from the weather.
Blurb:
Azure Blackstone has a chill. And—it isn't from New Orleans' November air. She fools herself into believing she has overcome her traumatic Halloween carjacking. A flashback proves her wrong.
Frank Hickman gets credit for her rescue that awful night. Now she learns he wasn't quite truthful. Is Azure's premonition about Frank really just a bad omen? Will Frank convince her otherwise?
Scene: Azure tries to take back her life after having a flashback.
Excerpt:
Azure warred with her emotions. Some gutless person imprisoned her. Nevertheless, her strong constitution would not be broken. Just like she refused to succumb then, she rejected the notion terror would control her now.
"I won't be manipulated by fear," she yelled into the frosty night.
The words were seconds from her mouth when a beam of light that sliced through the darkness hit her. Her stomach did a loop-the-loop. Azure dashed for the cover of darkness at the building's edge. The loud drumbeat was her heart. She watched the vehicle skid to a stop in the exact spot she had just vacated.
She ducked back, braced with her palms against the brick wall.
Azure knew the door opened up by the chime's constant alert. Sweat dampened her underarms, making her quake with cold. She waited for the slam that didn't come. Had she been spotted? A look over her other shoulder revealed no refuge. All she saw was blackness.
The repetitive tone continued—grating on her nerves.
Azure tried to recall if in her quest for liberation, tunnel vision prevented her from noticing any other activity in the area. She inched along the exterior in hopes distance would shield her from discovery. Gritty particles scratched her tender palms. Her sense of touch warned her she had come to the end of the wall.
To her horror, footsteps crunched the loose gravel on the nearby concrete. The advancing sound suddenly halted, and a disembodied form sifted into the headlight beams. She was all set to run for her life—except—the form took shape.
Azure gasped.
"We can't keep meeting like this." The voice punctured the silence.
"Frank?" His outstretched arms lured Azure from her hiding place. She accepted his invitation with haste, ramming into his solid chest. The softness of his flannel shirt brushed against her face. "I didn't see your truck."
"I came back because I forgot something."
Azure loved the way he squeezed and cuddled her closer. His chin, settled on top of her head, sparked sweet visions. It aroused the likelihood fate, once again, intervened on their behalf.

Excerpt/Free AA Christmas Read: Azure & Frank (The Gift of Love)
In the mood for a sweet AA Christmas romance? Read free on my blog!
Azure & Frank (The Gift of Love)
Genre: African-American Mainstream Contemporary Romance
Heat: Sweet
Words: 6,815
Will Frank's gift of love be enough to save Azure's Christmas spirit...and their romance?
Blurb:
Azure's in high spirits. It's Christmastime! She has invited Frank to her family's traditional holiday breakfast. What could go wrong with that idea?
Frank's nervous. He comes because of Azure and he doesn't come empty-handed. All goes well until he asks her a simple question. Then, she asks him to leave.
Will Azure's unfounded guilt ruin Christmas? Being the wise man that he is, will Frank's gift of love be enough to save Azure's Christmas spirit...and their romance?
Excerpt:
Frank Hickman unwrapped a stick of gum and shoved it into his dry mouth. He drove slowly passed the house for the second time, to the tune of John Legend's All of Me. The yard looked like a toy store had exploded there. Well, it is the Christmas holidays, he thought, removing the gum. It only made his mouth drier.
Not only did cars fill the driveway, leaving one barricaded spot untouched, curbside was a parking lot. There were so many vehicles for so early on a Christmas Eve morning. His inclination was to keep driving. However, he didn't get to act on the notion.
As he watched, the glass door to the front of the house burst open. Azure exited on the run. Frank jammed on the brake. He turned down the volume on the sound system. She sprinted right up to the truck as it hummed in the middle of the street. Her face had a peachy glow as she leaned on the passenger side door. Was the abrupt exertion the cause? He believed she was truly glad to see him.
Frank lowered the window.
"Don't think you're going to sneak off," Azure said.
Moisture returned to his mouth at the purr in her voice. He wanted nothing more than to lay a passionate kiss on her alluring lips. Her smile warmed him all over, even as cold air filtered inside his vehicle. She shivered.
"When you invited me to breakfast this morning, to meet your family—" Frank fingered the neck of his shirt, "—I thought it was to meet your parents."
A sneaky, humorous look entered her eyes. Azure wound her arms across the front of her body at the gusty wind. "They're inside." Her high spirits were evident in the naughty lilt of her voice.
"Yeah. And from the looks of it, so is everyone else."
"You know how it is when out of town guests swarm in for the holidays."
Frank remained mute, because he didn't.
