"Are we traveling far?"
"Not too. Going home to the family get-together." He kept his eyes straight ahead.
"Are you sure about this? I'm not exactly a friend of—"
"You're my friend." Booker glanced her way. "Don't worry, little mama. I'll protect you."
Erika startled. "Protect me from what…or whom?"
"From everyone who'll be ensnared by your gracious charm." He smiled sweetly.
Erika blushed.
She favored the teasing look he gave her. His profile, when he resumed his driving position, depicted his strong chin. Booker had numerous positive qualities. Erika prayed that between the two of them, they would pass on the best of each. "I had a doctor's appointment yesterday."
Booker moved his hand to the six o'clock position. "All is well?"
When he fixed his eyes on her, compassion abounded in his expression. She felt the look would transition into one of love for his baby, over time. "Wonderfully well…alive…and"—she twitched with a burst of laughter—"kicking."
Booker took his eyes off the highway. They held a wishful glint.
"Would you like to feel the baby move?"
