Yardsale Success

We made a small profit, compensating our labor.
We were paid to have junk hauled away.
We reduced contribution to landfills.
We have uncluttered closets and clean garage.
We were reminded of the relative value of goods sold in stores.
We practiced our math skills.
We practiced our Spanish and our various southern accents.
We practiced bartering.
We practiced our social skills with a wide range of people.
We provided things for the elderly, the young, and the poor at prices they could afford in a way that allowed them to keep their dignity.

The face of the little boy who knelt down to play with a pirate ship battered by years of small busy hands -- a boy who immediately understood, with his untainted imagination, the majesty and mystery of this ragged vessel ---who did not dare ask his parents to buy it for him --- when my daughter handed it to him as a gift.

What does a quarter mean to you?
