Where to now?

I've absolutely loved writing my three books set in
the heat of French and Spanish Catalonia. And the latest, Mediterranean Summer, is still taking all of my attention after its launch. But I know that readers want to know that there is more to come, and we writers are always a book or so ahead of ourselves in publication.

So what do you write to follow the Catalonia series? A completely different book set in Egypt and Scotland in World War 2, of course!

It may seem a completely different subject, but actually all of my books have been set in that turbulent period of the 20th century, from the Spanish Civil War to the 1960s, when big events were dramatically reshaping the lives of very ordinary people all over Europe and the world. I'd researched the war in depth already, and now wanted to extend this, and to explore what it was like to be at home in Scotland when the world was in turmoil from 1940 to 1945.

But more than that, in my own family we had a very exciting and romantic story that took place in Alexandria in Egypt during the war, and I wanted to explore that too. So a book was born, ambitious, all about people and the human side of the war, and which criss-crossed cultures to bring the home front and the desert front together.

What's it called? Tapestry of War
When will it be published? Sometime in 2018
