Otherwise reasonable people would become petty, and focus only on their side of the story. Angry partners would claim that they were victimized by the other’s awful behavior, and downplay their own problems, saying things like: “I only yelled a little bit, but you were really mean in how you yelled at me and hurt my feelings!”
This led to research projects with fighting couples, as well as abusive ones, which had even higher levels of denial and blame. It seems like everyone has a hard time staying honest during the challenges in relationships. This is why Love Me True was written – to help couples catch and reduce their deceptive habits, and grow closer through fun and authenticity. (less)
