Hamish Williams (PhD, UCT) is a lecturer in Literary Studies, Latin, Greek, and Creative Writing.

Hamish writes fantasy stories for readers young and old alike. His fiction is a mixture of traditional fantasy (the hero's journey, dense worldbuilding, interweaving storylines) with elements added from other genres such as beast fable, satire, detective stories, and mystery. The first two volumes of his fantasy series, Tales from Basthinia, are The Southern Tide (2021) and Under the Green Cloud (2025).

His academic writing discusses various themes in ancient and modern literature, such as utopianism, decline, hospitality, and the sublime. He is particularly interested in epic, fantasy literature, and modern rewritings of the Minoans.
