Elizabeth A. Havey has always been a writer, one who likes to change things up—first becoming an English teacher, then a maternity nurse and forever a mom and wife. She writes about human emotions and foibles, how they ravage memory, call out for forgiveness. She always knew she would write a novel, learning over years what that meant and what she needed to do—read like crazy, write constantly and never give up.

A Mother's Time Capsule, Short Stories about Motherhood.

After Papa Left, fiction that she took from one if her unpublished novels.

And soon to appear,
10055 South Wood Street, The Story of a Family.

I had read Writers and Lovers and found it wandered a bit, and thus it took me a long time to finish. Not so with Heart The Lover. From the delightful bright cover and through all the pages, King moves along, and we are right with her. YES, there are ...more

In the late sixties, I became a latchkey child who didn’t mind walking two plus miles from Longwood High School to my home in Beverly Hills, a Chicago neighborhood far south of the city. Through the soft breezes of spring and the freezing cold winds ...more

“From Elizabeth Strout: I am so deeply interested in what it feels like to be other people, that I get to operate under the illusion when I am writing fiction that I am not really revealing that much about myself. But of course, I am. I know that I am.”
Elizabeth A. Havey

“And then the Archbishop offered his final and most effective remedy: reframing. “The very best is being able to ask yourself, ‘Why do I want to have a house that has seven rooms when there are only two or three of us? Why do I want to have it?’ And you can turn it on its head and look at how we are in such a mess with climate change because of our galloping consumption, which for the environment has been nothing less than disastrous. So you buy the small electric car instead, and you say, no I don’t need or want that big luxury car. So instead of it being your enemy, now it’s your ally.” Jinpa”
