I made it up as I went--I literally didn't know what else was on the ship until the characters stepped foot there.

I remember that when my publisher wanted to design the blueprints for the ship, they asked me what the outside looked like. I told them I had no idea--none of the characters went outside the ship! I had to scramble to come up with something! (And ended up basing the outside of the ship on the Planet Express ship in Futurama.)(less)

Across the universe became one of my best reads for last year, i am looking forward for a millions suns i know that it will be so much better (and that´s a lot to say)
