Accidental Author

I was sitting in a spa in the Amish Country of Pennsylvania when I had an idea for a book. I thought of this awkward meeting of a man and woman and imagined how funny it could be. My family was on a long road trip to Maine from our home in North Carolina.

When we returned home from our trip, I thought, “I want to try to write that book.” When I had that flippant though, I never expected to be where I am today. I finished my manuscript in January, and sent it to a few people for them to read. I wanted to know if it was as good as I thought it was. I had surprised myself. As it turned out, I surprised my first readers as well. And the moment I decided, I’m going to publish this, I unknowingly signed up for a new career which includes not only writing, but marketing and publishing as well.

It’s been quite a lot to learn. How do you take a story in a Word document and turn it into a physical book? An ebook? Then how in the world do you convince people they should read the book? (I’ve apparently done something right since you’re here.) All the tiny details have taken up a lot of space in my life and my brain. I’m getting there, though and it’s so exciting!

A year ago not a word had been written, not even the spark of an idea had shown up in my mind, and in a month I will have a real life book out in the world! And people I don’t even know will read it (here’s hoping)! ❤

Is there anything you would like to try, but haven’t? You might surprise yourself!
