My fascination for speculative fiction developed during hot Texas summers filled with baseball, fishing, and reading. In college, I was a mediocre student, studying writing, classical literature, philosophy, linguistics, and computer science.

I have worked as a teacher, technical writer, systems analyst, martial arts instructor, and various other odd jobs.

My stories are primarily in the science fiction genre depicting characters under stressful and extraordinary settings. Even in a fantastic setting, I like to focus on my characters' reactions to what is happening to them.

Sandy Pearl

My new book, Sandy Pearl and the Blades, is out on Amazon and Smashwords in ebook format. I am currently setting up for the paperback copy to be released and am very excited about that!

Sandy Pearl and the Blades is a departure from science fiction with a story hearkening back to the 1970's. Here's the blurb:

In the mid-1970's, Sandy Pearl and the Blades were the hottest band on the scene. They topp Read more of this blog post »

Hunter S. Thompson
“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and—in spite of True Romance magazines—we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely—at least, not all the time—but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

Cheryl Landmark Thanks so much for accepting my friend request, Thomas. I'm looking forward to reading some of your books.

If I was me, and sometimes I think I am, I would probably read Rolling Thunder first, then maybe Smolif. Rolling Thunder is an earlier effort and an easy read. Smolif was written some ten years after.
Good to meet you!

Aloha Hi Thomas, thank you for friending me. I have not been reviewing books lately because my life have been chaotic. When things calm down, I would like to review yours. What book of yours would you suggest I start with?

Wanderer Song of the Elowai has such an exciting plot. I hope to read it soon. :)

Thomas Steph, I'm back to teaching after a career as a tech writer and analyst, so for the past year I've been a substitute while I search for a full time position. I take assignments in a neighboring school district that allows me to teach all grade levels although I am secondary school certified (6-12). I have discovered I really like working with kids in the 5th and 6th grades though. This past year, I've taught all grades from 4th to 12th. Every day is an adventure!

Truly glad to meet another book lover!

Tom, that is really neat! Glad we have "run into" each other through Goodreads then! I was initially studying to be an English teacher before I decided to pursue a career in library instead. I decided I'd be ridiculously happy to be surrounded by books all day and get paid for it. I was hoping to teach at the college level. What grade level do you teach? Like most people in the English field, I too hope to become a published author someday. For now, I mostly write short stories. I'll have to browse around your website and take a look at your books!

Hi Steph, this is true kismit as I was just looking at your profile. I am a writer and English teacher so my best friends are the librarians at school. Judging from the books in your list, I'm sure you would enjoy many scifi books (not just mine!).

Stephanie Hello Tom! Thanks for the friendship and also sending out the books. I'm quite new to sci-fi, but the books sounded really intriguing, so I thought I'd give them a try. Who knows, it may just be a new favorite genre for me! I read most genres, so I think I may enjoy this one too. :)

I saw quite a few titles on your "read" shelf that I've been wanting to read, such as "One Flew Over," "Flowers For Algernon," "A Clockwork Orange," "Helter Skelter," and the list goes on haha!

I also saw you had Palahniuk on your "to-read" shelf. He is awesome! One of my favorites.
