I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn
“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
Marilyn Monroe

Mark Twain
“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to reform (or pause and reflect).”
Mark Twain

David Wojnarowicz
“I want to throw up because we're supposed to quietly and politely make house in this killing machine called America and pay taxes to support our own slow murder and I'm amazed we're not running amok in the streets, and that we can still be capable of gestures of loving after lifetimes of all this.”
David Wojnarowicz, Close to the Knives: A Memoir of Disintegration

Henry Miller
“Life moves on, whether we act as cowards or heroes. Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such”
Henry Miller

Jorge Luis Borges
“Art is fire plus algebra.”
Jorge Luis Borges

J.E.J. Fern Thank you!

Anna Springer I can, with total objectivity, say that my book is one of the most successful works of literature ever created. But it's true that Goodreads should have stars for love/hate and a separate category for successful/unsuccessful, as should children.

c.vance c.vance right... but plenty of parents of retards love their offspring far more than those of somewhat successful people. are the retards better because they are more loved?

not a comment on your book but mine--- i've not read yours yet.

to steal, far too aptly, from Cabell:
But Jurgen shook his sleek black head. "That I cannot understand at all. If I were imprisoned in a cell wherein was nothing except my verses I would not be happy, and certainly I would not be proud: but even so, I would love my verses. I am afraid that I fall in more readily with the ideas of Grandfather Satan than with Yours; and without contradicting You, I cannot but wonder if what You reveal is true."

Anna Springer I have to say, I think mine - the Vicious Red Relic, Love - is probably my favorite book ever written. I normally don't say such overly-kind things about myself or my work, but I do think my book is my favorite book in the world. I'm so happy that I love at least one thing I've made so much.

c.vance c.vance of the writers i most admire that you've listed here-- Nab, Calvino, Gaiman, Borges --you've overwhelmingly rated your book 2 stars above theirs. i envy that; even rating mine 4 seems like a bold-faced lie...
