5 Keys to Success

I recently spoke to the University of Findlay Men's Basketball team. The topic I covered with this group of young, motivated athletes was "5 Keys to Success."

Below are those 5 Keys to Success...

1. Thoughts Become Things! "The Strangest Secret" by Earl Nightingale teaches that thoughts become things. What we think about, we become. It's important to be mindful of our thoughts; they will lead to positive or negative outcomes. What are your thoughts leading you towards?

2. Never Stop Learning! When we graduate from high school or college, that isn't the end... it's the beginning of something new. To become better tomorrow than we are today, we must constantly be learning new things. Are you better today than you were yesterday?

3. Gotta have Goals! If you were going on a vacation, would you wake up one day, pick up, and leave? Or would you plan for it in the weeks and months leading up to it? Of course, you'd prepare for the trip first. This is what goals do for our lives; they give us the desired destination before we start! Do you have goals? Are they written down? Do you look at them regularly?

4. Teamwork is Vital! We are all part of different teams in life, such as family, friends, and work. Ask yourself if you would want yourself as a teammate.

5. Believe in YOU! If we want to be happy and live our best lives, we must believe in ourselves. There are many ways to develop this trait. One of the best ways is to do positive affirmations in the mirror daily! Give it a try!

I hope this helps,

How to become successful

Michael Jordan was quoted as saying "Champions don't become champions when they win an event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it." I agree with Michael.

In my own business and career, I've lived that quote over and over again. In order to reach the top in my sales career, which I did. I had to first study what other successful salespeople were doing, then read books and listen to as much audio on best practices as I could. In other words, to reach the top in my industry and become a successful salesperson, I had to learn and then practice championship habits. I did that and it propelled me right to the top.

The next step in my career path would prove the above quote correct once again. I started my own business in 2001 and struggled at first. The main reason for my struggles is that I wasn't putting in the time to learn how to run a business, instead I was thinking I could just work hard without the knowledge necessary to become a thriving business owner. When I started putting equal time into studying and learning the ins and outs of how to run a successful business, and developed some positive daily habits, my business took off and we haven't looked back. I had to prepare for success before it came along.

In 2022 I decided I wanted to write a book to help other people to learn how to develop and maintain a positive outlook in life. So, I did just that and wrote "The Power of a Positive Mindset." Did I know how to write, edit, format, and ultimately publish a book? Nope! So, if you guessed that I had to take the time to learn how to do all of the above before I could actually do it, you'd be right! Now, I'm a published Author.

The best part about the three examples I gave you from my own life is that the information was readily available for me to become successful. I just had to put in the time to learn and then apply it through positive daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly habits.

So, whether you're an athlete, salesperson, business owner, Author, or any other profession, by putting in the time to learn the best practices and applying them...You too can become successful at anything you desire.

I hope this helps,
