Award-winning author DARCY SCOTT (Best Mystery, 2013 Indie Book Awards; Silver Award, 2013 Readers Favorite Book Awards; Bronze Award, 2013 IPPY Awards; Winner, 2019 National Indie Excellence Awards) is a live-aboard sailor and experienced ocean cruiser who’s sailed to Grenada and back on a whim, island-hopped through the Caribbean, and been struck by lightning in the middle of the Gulf Stream. For all her wandering, her summer home and favorite cruising grounds remain along the coast of Maine—the history and rugged beauty of its sparsely populated out-islands serving as inspiration for much of her fiction, including Margel’s Madness and her popular Island Mystery Series. Her debut novel, Hunter Huntress, was published in 2010 by Snowbooks, ...more

It's a departure from my ongoing Island Mystery series, and is instead a work of women's regional fiction--a family drama set on the coast of Maine in which a woman struggles to break with her toxic family and make a fresh start with her free-spirited, four-year-old daughter, eventually finding redemption in the most unlikely of places. It's what I call my autobio-novel, as it deals with some pretty brutal aspects of my own childhood.

I'm also working on "Ragged Island," the third installment in the Island Mystery Series featuring wayward botanist and reluctant sleuth Gil Hodges ("Best male protagonist to come along since Lee Child's Jack Reacher"--Cruising World Magazine). A March, 2016 publication date is planned.(less)

Why Building a Dry-Laid Stone Wall is Like Writing a Novel

So okay, I’ve just finished building my first dry-laid stone wall, which I’ve decided is actually a lot like the process of writing a novel. First I divide and organize the raw material (rocks/manuscript notes) and make a general plan which I may or may not end up following. Then as I begin fitting things together, I place countless pieces I later rearrange or decide to save for another spot. Read more of this blog post »

“who's this dub?" "Lawyer." Lawyer? I glance to Al for clarification but he's clearly as bewildered as I am. (argument amongst other fishermen) John heads toward the door, then turns, points to me. "You're alright. Only lawyer I ever seen could keep his yap shut longer than thirty seconds.”
