I started my professional career as a journalist at newspapers as far apart as Rome, Italy, and Anchorage, Alaska.

After years of practicing journalism, I began teaching it at universities not quite so far apart, ranging from Wisconsin to, again, Alaska.

I wrote travel stories and other kinds of nonfiction as a journalist and professor. However, I have been writing fiction since I was in the third grade (a long time ago). My first recognition was a Boy's Life honorable mention for a science-fiction story I wrote at that age.

I recently completed three fairytale fantasy books in the Balin's World Series. They are:

"Balin and the Hollow Knight," "Companions of the Hollow Knight," and "Mimsey and the Moon Child."

If you like analogies, this is the book for you. The plot is interesting but every action seems to require an analogy.

This is a fine ghost story. Everything about it makes it a good read. The writer has skillfully recreated a post-World War I setting for her suspenseful tale. I highly recommend it.

Larry Pearson answered Goodreads's question: If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there? Not a book but a poem. I would go to Xanadu where Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decreed. I would go as a tourist and my stay would be brief because I wouldn't understand the local language.

His books are always good reading. This one is no exception. The main character is endearing and his trials allow Smith to say a great deal about the vicissitudes of our time.
