I would say at heart, I’m just an artist. It’s quite tough to sum yourself up in a little bio, you know?

I’ve written all my life. It was always my goal to write a book, yet every time I sat down to do it, I’d only spin out poetry. Then one day a lightbulb lit up; and thus began the birth of my first book, Biting Thorns Off Roses.

Seven years ago, I had my sights set on music. I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA to study singing, and to pursue a career as a recording artist…then I left after my first year.

This unexpected decision marked the end of an era, and the beginning of something much greater. I packed my things, booked a flight, and within one month I was lying on a beach in Los Angeles, CA.

Since then I’ve solo road-tri

Radical honesty: the first true act of radical self-love

To be honest with you guys; I’ve been slipping.

I think if more of us could actually admit to the times we are slipping, maybe it would help everyone realize that it’s okay.

Kind of like, if we could all just apologize a bit more, maybe we’d learn there is safety in admitting we’re human.

There’s a quiet power to it; a peaceful self-assurance.

So what does slipping look like for me?

Dirty dishes in

Wow. I just finished this audiobook and ran to the reviews (I don't know if I've written a book review before by the way?)

I'll be upfront: I don't like audiobooks. But with a book like this, there is something Engulfing about listening to a 17-year-o

“If Anger could speak, it would beg to be seen
It would scream and scream until it’s throat gave out—

“Fight for my life!”;

I was a burdened child
And not much about that has changed.

If Grief had a voice
It would sound like a little girl,
Carrying the weight of a life held too close to her bones;

Of love like coffee stained teeth.

The lives we have lived deserve proper funerals
But the putting to rest;

That, my dear friend, is the beast.”
Megan E. Hoffman, Biting Thorns Off Roses

“Isn’t it a funny feeling; guilt
And the things we feel it for

I’m not sure which is harder; being unloved
Or being taught love is what it isn’t

But both leave you robbed

And angry.

It took me two decades to understand,
You never knew how;
Yours came with strings of compliance attached

And obligatory love is a piss poor excuse for it.

I left, I left
And still the guilt came;

That unwanted visitor, who refuses to leave.”
Megan E. Hoffman, Biting Thorns Off Roses

“You see an unmade bed

Dirty dishes in the sink and laundry strewn across the floor;
I see mountains of indecision

Do you know what you want?

And have you sat alone in the dark just to see what comes up?

I wonder if you’ve felt how fulfillment feels, and if so
Could you maybe share it with me?

Not so I could steal it, or any silly thing like that
But so I, too, can know what the world is supposed to feel like

Maybe then I’d finally find the energy to do things

Like making beds and washing dishes and folding laundry.”
Megan E. Hoffman, Biting Thorns Off Roses

“Maybe hope is the only thing we can lean into, in the face of complete hopelessness;

Maybe hope, is our human superpower.”

“America Is A Gun

England is a cup of tea.
France, a wheel of ripened brie.
Greece, a short, squat olive tree.
America is a gun.

Brazil is football on the sand.
Argentina, Maradona's hand.
Germany, an oompah band.
America is a gun.

Holland is a wooden shoe.
Hungary, a goulash stew.
Australia, a kangaroo.
America is a gun.

Japan is a thermal spring.
Scotland is a highland fling.
Oh, better to be anything
than America as a gun.”
Brian Bilston

That we owe?”
