Silk Scarf
What would I do without you BOO?
I curse myself out if I go to sleep without you!
I need you, cause unlike the world,
You understand and embrace my uniqueness,
You recognize that my kinky hair
is one of my strengths,
Not a weakness.
I am a Black woman!
Naturally beautiful, nobody can deny,
But my silk scarf helps to keep me fly.
My hair flows with my swag…
So I keep one on the top of
my bedroom dresser
and one in hobo bag.
On my mind, half the time,
the closest thing to me,
You stayed on my head for a week
when I was stressed out.
My ride or die
on my head when I take trips down South.
Some early mornings and late nights
You hang on my head for dear life
while I'm getting it in...
If I wake up,
and my day has started before me,
Like a true friend, you are there for me.
Tied to the side in bad weather,
I'm not afraid to put U on where ever
People be talking about us, but pssh... whatever!
Remember back in the dayz…
when I used to tote you in my book bag.
Or inside my bubble coat just in case
I had to whip somebody’s ass.
And now you are still there
holding down all of my styles…
Even the hot red weaves when I was going wild!
Wash-in Sets, my honey blonde pin curls,
bad ass sew-ins, my Poetic Justice extensions
my corns rows for braids outs,
flat twist and Senegalese twist
my long pony tails, high and low buns,
bobs and short cuts
you blended in my gel so well
and flatten my edges making old styles look new
You protected my
Chunky twist and cornrows when I was little girl
Plaits and press n curls back in the days…
There even when I rocked
the slightly glittered finger waves…
Because of you,
I am comfortable snapping pics,
laughing and dancing and looking cute
That’s why I had to dedicate a poem to you,
My Silk Scarf,
My BFF.
Muah!
I love you!
