Post-Valentine Post
It’s been a long snowy week in the Pacific Northwest. The kind of week where you wish your only job was to stay inside reading books and drinking cocoa. I have to admit, in between working and clearing my walkway, I spent a lot of time looking at pictures of cute animals with heart spots and dreaming of the first signs of spring.
I hope you had a fun (and warm) holiday!

It’s been almost a year since the last book in the Pioneer Falls trilogy came out — time really has been flying by! Since then, I’ve been working on a film project with a friend. No, it’s not an adaptation of one of my novels, but it does have a high school love story in it, which has been so fun to write.
More about that when it’s farther along in the process. Wishing you first signs of spring and lots of love in 2019!

YA Scavenger Hunt #YASH
[image error]
Welcome to the spring 2018 YA Scavenger Hunt!
This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! On this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 120 hours!
Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are SIX contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all. I am a part of the PURPLE TEAM, but there is also a red team, a gold team, a green team, a blue team, and a pink team.
If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt prize page.
SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE
Directions: Below, you’ll notice that I’ve listed my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the Purple Team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!)
Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify. Read all of the rules at the YASH site.
Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by April 8th, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.
And now… THE SCAVENGER HUNT POST
Today, I have the honor of hosting Breeana Sheilds. First let’s get to know Breeana and her featured book, Poison’s Cage. Then, Breeana shares one playlist she created for her book and one she listens to when she’s writing.

Breeana Shields is the author of the young adult fantasy, Poison’s Kiss and its sequel, Poison’s Cage (Random House BFYR.) She graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in English. When she’s not reading or writing, she loves traveling, eating good food–especially if it’s pasta or chocolate–and spending time with her husband, her three children, and two spoiled, but adorable dogs.

An assassin becomes a spy in this heart-pounding sequel to Poison’s Kiss. Readers who love the assassin angle in Throne of Glass, the lethal touch in Shatter Me, or the high stakes of The Wrath and the Dawn will want to follow this story to the end.
Find out more information by checking out Breena’s website or find more about her books here.
BREEANA’S PLAYLISTS
I’ve never been able to write to music with lyrics. I find it too distracting. However, music is still an important part of my process in several ways. First, it’s incredibly helpful before I begin a new book—when I’m still daydreaming about the story and trying to find the heart of it. Or—once I’ve begun—when I’m hopelessly stuck and need to take some time to figure out what comes next. Before starting a new project, I make a playlist and listen during non-working times–while I’m driving, cooking, or doing anything else that leaves my mind free to wander. It helps channel my thoughts toward the book, and I’ve untangled many thorny plot issues with the aid of Spotify and a little downtime.
While I’m actually drafting, I either write in silence, or listen to something inspiring without lyrics—the kind of music that can both set the mood and fade into the background so it doesn’t interfere with my concentration.
So today, I want to share two playlists. The first belongs to Poison’s Cage—these are the songs that most reflect the book for me, and what I listened to while brainstorming. The second is a list of music I find helpful while I’m actually writing—these songs provide relaxing and/or inspiring background noise that help me focus. I hope you enjoy!

Now, dear YASHers–– don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of books by me, Breeana Shields, and other authors. To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is:
77

CONTINUE THE HUNT
To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author on Team Purple–– Eva Pohler.

YA Scavenger Hunt Kicks-off April 3rd #YASH
[image error]Happy spring, everyone! It’s that time of the year again– not just for flowers and bunnies and umbrellas (if you’re in Seattle) but also for the biggest Young Adult author blog event around.
The Young Adult Scavenger Hunt or #YASH hops to life on April 3rd. This year, there are 120 authors participating, so that means you could win a ton of books and other prizes.
You can begin on my blog or over at the YASH website starting at noon Pacific Time on April 3rd. Basically, you hop through the blogs, read awesome bonus content from each featured author, and collect the secret numbers for each team color along the way. See the YASH website for full details on how to participate and submit your answers for prizes.
During the hunt, I’ll be sharing an exclusive behind the scenes look at how I created the Pioneer Falls series and celebrating my latest release, A LIGHT SO CRUEL.
And here’s a sneak preview of my group TEAM PURPLE. I’m excited to partner with this talented bunch of YA authors.

One More Day until A Light So Cruel!
Yep. It’s just o[image error]ne more day until the launch of Pioneer Falls Book 3 – A Light So Cruel. I’m happy to be publishing the finale in this trilogy of novels about Lily Turner and the curse that’s changed her life forever.
Having lived in a logging town or two myself, I never ran across werewolves like Lily and her family, but the forests of the Northwest sure inspired me to think such creatures must exist.
If you enjoyed the first two eBooks, you can pre-order Book 3 here.
Reviews always help other readers find new titles, so don’t forget to post them on books you’ve read.
Thanks, readers and friends!
