Andrew Brel was born in 1960 in Johannesburg to Greek parents, growing up in South Africa during the apartheid years before emigrating to England in 1984. After 29 years in London working as a musician, producer and author, Andrew moved to the start of a fourth nationality in California.

He is a self-taught author; asked to recite his first short story at age 6, his ability to tell edge-of-seat stories on the fly without 'uhm' pauses was first recognized in English class at Bryanston Primary. A prodigious reader from an early age, a career in music delayed his first publication until 2011.
