My thoughts on everyone's reviews so far for my book.
Hey guys.
So I've been getting a lot of mixed reviews for my book, Pretty Unlikely.
I personally, as the author, would like to explain myself and the characters a bit to those who felt confused or in disbelief.
It has come to my attention that the main character, Anna Strouse is slutty, has no class, is dumb, or annoying. Let me just note, that this is all done on purpose. I made my main character to be a very controversal object. You either love her or hate her. I'm personally the type of author who doesn't want to be like the rest. Like Bella Swan or Anastasia Steele characters. Though I thought those books were solid, it doesn't mean I want my main character to be in that cliche genre with their personalities.
Another thing, I drop many hints in my book that Anna is supernatural. She explains it pretty clear so her reacting to a killing monster who is misunderstood is quite normal to her.
I made the mother to be a bad mother because she is in a way, bipolar, though she buys her children whatever they please, she still has her moments. I know she did some good though which is why I state in the book that Anna feels guilty sometimes for being a brat.
If it is not written well, I am sorry. I am still going to college to better myself, though I am majoring in journalism. I do not expect people to read Harry Potter or Twilight in my books. I know that my writing is mediocre/good/pretty good type thing. I also made my book to be a rambling, look-inside-character's-mind type of book.
Though Edmond is a small fraction of the book, please leave him alone. I've so far gotten 2 or 3 people saying the rat is pointless in the book but in the second book, if you read it, you will see that he very much has a purpose in the Pretty Unlikely Trilogy.
So with all of everyone's feedback, whether it was a complaint or liked it or loved it, I at least wanted to clear things up, and I know I am not a best-seller, though I plan to be one 2-40 years down the road. Whatever happens.
All of your feedback truly helped me, even the bad reviews.
Thanks to everyone:)
I will never stop writing.
Just so you know...hopefully the moral of my book came across clearly. It was this: Accept people for the way they are, no matter what they look like. Isaiah is a very misunderstood gentle creature, who only kills out of self-defense if someone is trying to kill him first, which would be fine if a human did that in real life. But when a monster does? Oh no! He is evil! Isaiah is beaten and bruised up and a science creation. He is no human-looking thing at all but he portrays all the teens/adults out there who are judged and feared of because of their looks. I find this world to be extremely shallow so having him in my book, portrayed as that in an over the top scary way, makes me proud of myself. I was like Isaiah in high school and middle school. "Goth", so they called me, freak, ugly, psycho...made me want to write my feelings and make a creature that goes through reactions on looks. He is also inspired by Edward Scissorhands, Frankenstein, and Tin Man from Wizard Of Oz, though his powers and personality are completely different. I also resemble Anna in the fact that she stands up for what she believes in.
Everyone else in the book were inspired by people I know who, I will not name.
All in all, I will continue to perfect this book:)

It's Hard Being A Writer.
It is. It really is. I've been writing since the age of 5 and I'm now near 21. I'm getting education in Creative Writing and English and Journalism, but who knows if that helps. I have a few problems. One is I'm low on tuition. My parents can not afford anymore college for me so I will either have to take loans out (25,000) estimated, or pay up front cash. It's really bothering me. I just want to write. That's all I want. It's my biggest passion and I'm not smart in math or sciences. I have some type of disability I swear. College wants me to take all there GER's (general education requirements) and I am extremely challenged in them. So yeah, it is tough being in college.
As a writer, I've been devoting myself as much as I can in the little time I have. I'm working full time as a coffee shop barista supervisor, working part time at the college newspaper, and living alone in a one bedroom apartment. My life is struggling a little bit because my book is so different, many publishers shun it away. I've only shown it to three. I have a whole list of publishers I want in my 2012 Writer's Market Book, but I am far too embarrassed to show them my work yet.
I know authors, like Kevin Brooks, one of my favorites, who never got a college degree. He was a zookeeper all his life and is now a very popular author now.
I'm scared my books will never be heard. I've gotten so many mixed reviews about my books and the ones that don't like my book REALLY don't like it. I am trying to figure out a balance where most people feel the same about it.
All I do is pour my heart out into my trilogy and other books I am working on only to get little to no results back.
I have been writing for 15 years, won competitions in writing for school, been selected for poetry sections in books, and have grown a fan base online.
It just bothers me how some people get it easy with getting famous and well-heard, where I am sitting at home alone at my desk ripping everything I got out of my soul trying to get my voice heard.
All I hope is that someday, I get discovered.
I might be in debt with college down the road, I might not. I might be smart enough to get a degree, I might not. All I know is writing is my life and when I know that I've touched people with my writing, it makes me cry.
I've made some people cry in my pieces from Creative Writing classes so I definitely know I can use that to my advantage on readers.
I've come from a broken family. I've been abused and bullied my entire life and it's only been the past two years that I've actually shined in my life for the first time. I actually feel like I matter.
I just want any of you fans or friends of mine to know that I've been busting my ass working two jobs, three including my book marketing, but that's more of a passion than a job to me. I want you all to know that being a writer is a massive process and it comes with a lot of sacrifices to get what you really want.
If I get a degree in Journalism and then master in Creative Writing, that's great, real great. But ultimately, I want my hard-earned education to eventually get me what I want. Writing is all I know best. It's all I want. I don't know anything else other than writing. I have nothing left to lose. Let's see where my life gets me.
Peace everyone.Pretty UnlikelyEmily Hodson

Some Delightful News
Hello all,
It's yours truly, here for a little blog update. :)
Apologies for my second book's delay, but my life has literally been a hectic non-stop rollercoaster of a ride. I have been working two jobs, three including writing, going to the gym like crazy, and prepping for school again. End of September, I've decided to push my fears away and go back to school. I've decided to go all the way. I'm going to get my Master's Degree in Creative Writing to become a better-crafted author, to teach high school and/or college english and writing classes, AND just for the sake of completing something I actually wanna do. I am very proud of this decision and I cannot wait to inspire others and help my future students out. In regards to my Pretty Unlikely Trilogy, the first one, well, the special edition first one, is about forty pages from being complete with the editing and the second book is about 75 pages done from the edits. I apologize with the delays but I've had a huge plateful with juggling jobs, finances, keeping a roof under my head, and getting my life together. I hope you all are ready for a treat, as my revised edition of the first book will be released in a few weeks and you ALL get a free PDF copy in exchange for a review. I've spent another good year working on the edits, as the last batch of reviews really helped me out. I can't afford an editor, however, I have been able to get a few friends with degrees take a look at it in addition to my own eyes. :) You have no idea how much writing means to me and the feedback I receive, whether it's good or bad. I've been writing since the age of 5, when I was in the back of the rental car, complaining about how boring the drive was to Cedar Point, this amusement park in Ohio. If my mother hadn't given me a piece of paper and pen, telling me to write, I don't know if I would have gotten into the groove so early with the art of writing.
It's what I want to do, feel, and breathe. Everything about writing is beautiful to me. The poetic tint to it, the make-believe characters who come to life with each page turned, the magical layout of the author's own fantasy from their dreams and imaginative thoughts...everything about writing inspires me to do well in this craft. I hope you all follow me in my journey and support authors like me who are indie and unrecognized. I support locals and indies and so should you ;)
