Joseph Ashbrook was a US astronomer. He received a doctorate from Harvard University in 1947. He taught at Yale University from 1946 to 1950, and then at Harvard from 1950 to 1953. He began working at the popular amateur astronomy magazine Sky and Telescope in 1953. From 1954 to 1980 he wrote a column "Astronomical Scrapbook". From 1964 onwards he was editor-in-chief.
