Happy Midwinter Holidays
Hello friends-
A quick note to thank you for reading!
I just e-published a short story "The Sad Cancer Saloon" on KOBO and Apple and Amazon. Like my novel, She Taught Me Everything, it's a contemporary family drama, about ;6 or 7 pages of siblings facing the inevitable with their chipper but dying father. I hope you'll enjoy it!
It's meant to be free, as a thank-you gift, but I've found it's never easy to make Amazon do one's bidding.
The links can be found on my own blog:

Hope the new year brings you safety, excellent books, and joy!
Cheers

What's next?
Hi readers.
You know how you finish reading and, even as the haze of the story has not yet cleared, part of you is asking, hey, what's next?
Yeah, my own to-be-read pile is stacked high to avoid agonizing over that question.
As for writing, that question is more fraught. Writing is slow for me, and it's not always my first priority, so it goes even slower. Still, there is a next thing coming along the pike. A different thing from my first novel, for better or worse.
For details, check out the big illustrated blog at
http://www.amysmithlinton.com/she-tau...
And btw, I am always curious about what people are reading...drop me a line if you've found a new favorite lately. Or if you are in need of a book-matchmaking, I'm pretty good at that...
Thanks!

How Very Meta
I'm not like June in Yellowface, really, I hope I'm not.
But as I notice the numbers climbing toward a landmark, it's kind of a thrill. Six months into publication, She Taught Me Everything is reaching 1000 readers on Goodreads.
I have more to say, of course I do, about the topic over on my own blog:

Reviews reviews reviews
I recently wrote a blog on my website about the why-to/how-to of book reviews. It's focused a little on the 'Zon, but the basics hold true across all the retail sites: unless you are blessed with a large budget, a large fanbase, or both, readers are likely to discover your book via reviews.
My own enormous TBR is littered with books that I heard about and said, "ooh, that sounds good!"
Anyhow, as I see the number of people who have shelved my first novel on Goodreads closing in on 1000, and the number of reviews hovering in the 30's, let me say I really truly appreciate folks who took time to say what they liked (or didn't) about the novel.
And in case you want more perspective on how or why to review...http://www.amysmithlinton.com/she-tau...

Authorland
Hello kind readers!
Hope 2024 brings you joy and 5-star reads!
Life over here in my corner of authorland has been all over the board: busy, puzzling, exciting, slow, humbling, humorous.
Between the Tok (good heavens, is that what I look like these days?!) and Amazon ads, I feel my brain is crammed full of information of dubious durability. Or if the data is not flimsy and transitory, maybe my grasp of it is. Hmmm.
I've been honored to be included in several book clubs. They've picked my book (eeeeeee!), and when the meet to talk about it, I show up or FaceTime in to answer questions. It's beyond thrilling for me.
I really love that part of my job: first, talking about my own book is -- intoxicating. But also I do love just talking books and helping match books with readers.
If you're in the Tampa Bay area in March, 2024, I will be signing books at the Barnes & Noble on Westshore on March 16 –– noon til 2:30 or so.
I'll do a quick giveaway at that event: be the first person to mention the book Nicola was reading to Viv (Nicholas Nickleby) will win a gift card someplace useful.

Book Selfie Contest
In late November, I invited folks to send a photo of someone reading She Taught Me Everything...
Here's the link to the Facebook public photo-album:
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...
The winner drawn at random was Kathy Lacey; she won a $25 gas card. Whoot who!
A second gas card for $25 went to Mark Taylor, who won the popular vote on the Facebook page. Thanks!

Red Letter Days
Hello readers!
It's been just under a month, and I've complicated the publicity launch of this first novel by moving freely about the country, but I just held my first book signing event at a bookstore. I hope there will be many more, because honestly, what a perfect excuse for talking about the book, the process, and the whole spicy enchilada of going from vague idea to beautiful book in hand!
Over on my own website, there are photos and a lot more opinions (plus a shout-out to Madonna) about the day.
Thanks for coming with me on this adventure!

Hello curious reader.
Thanks for checking out this link. I usually post on my own website, www.amysmithlinton.com.
I'm working on making the RSS link play nice between Goodreads and my site, but meanwhile swing on by.
