New series!

I’m launching a new series set in Regency England under my penname Emily Larkin. The books aren’t traditional fantasies, although they have elements of fantasy – think Jane Austen with a dash of magic.

Out this month are The Fey Quartet and Unmasking Miss Appleby. The Fey Quartet novellas are the prequel to the Baleful Godmother series, and Unmasking Miss Appleby is the first book in the series.

Unmasking Miss Appleby is the novel I’ve been wanting to write for years. It takes everything that I love about Regency England, but adds a little bit of what I love about fantasy. As I said above, it’s Jane Austen plus magic, and in the first novel, the magic is shapeshifting.

UNMASKING MISS APPLEBY

On her 25th birthday, Charlotte Appleby receives a most unusual gift from the Faerie godmother she never knew she had: the ability to change shape.

Penniless and orphaned, she sets off for London to make her fortune as a man. But a position as secretary to Lord Cosgrove proves unexpectedly challenging. Someone is trying to destroy Cosgrove and his life is increasingly in jeopardy.

As Charlotte plunges into London’s backstreets and brothels at Cosgrove’s side, hunting his persecutor, she finds herself fighting for her life—and falling in love…

As you can probably guess from this description, Unmasking Miss Appleby is a romance. So if that word makes your toes curl, don’t attempt to read it! However, the advance praise has been wonderful, so maybe you’d care to give it a try?

"Sexy, unusual, and vastly entertaining."
~ Anna Campbell, author of the Dashing Widows series

"What an utterly ridiculously wonderful story! Had me oddly intrigued and at parts grinning like a fool and by the end tears falling down my face."
~ Sarah @ NetGalley

"Spellbinding! I have never read a regency quite like this...it has everything; fascinating characters and a gripping story!"
~ Romazing Reader

"I loved it. A fun romp of a tale. Regency-era delight with a twist of magic. I can't wait for the next in the Baleful Godmother series."
~ Anne Gracie, author of the Chance Sisters and Devil Riders series

5 stars
"The writing was great. The character building was fantastic. The story was completely unique. It's honestly something I've never read before and I loved it all."

~ Megan @ NetGalley

Unmasking Miss Appleby

Now, on to The Fey Quartet novella collection . . .

The Fey Quartet is the prequel to the Baleful Godmother series and consists of four short fairy tale novellas about wishes, secrets, dangerous Faeries, dangerous dead Faeries, disguises, shapeshifting, telepathy, treachery, loyalty – and romance. Again, these are romances, so the same warning I gave earlier applies: If you don’t like romances, don’t read these novellas!

I’m giving The Fey Quartet novellas away for free to anyone who joins my Emily Larkin newsletter list, so if you think you’d like to try them, join the Emily Larkin list and receive the free download. Alternatively, Unmasking Miss Appleby contains the free download link, so if you purchase the novel you’ll automatically get the prequel for free.

Happy reading
