Srila Gaura-kisora Babaji was outwardly an illiterate village fellow

To think of becoming a fool is the real qualification for a bonafide disciple. As soon as one thinks that he has become the wiser man than the spiritual master one is surely doomed. We should remain everlastingly a fool before the spiritual master. Not artificially, but feelingly, and then we can make real progress. “I often went to see Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī, and naturally bowed at his lotus feet whenever I did. Yet at one point I considered, “I am the great Maharaja of Burdwan. Among all the highly respectable people in Bengali society, none is more famous or respected than I. Who is this sadhu in comparison to me? Why should I prostrate before him? Next time I won't, and I'll watch how he reacts.” On my next visit I barged in on him and blurted, “I've something to say to you.” But before I could speak further, my head automatically went down to the floor in front of him. I was unable to wait to see his response to my rudeness.2”
Bhakti Vikasa Swami, Sri Bhaktisiddhanta Vaibhava

“Many South Indian Vaiṣṇava brāhmaṇas, themselves deeply learned in śāstra, highly regarded Śrīla Sarasvatī Ṭhākura and his disciples for their adherence to śāstra and spreading Viṣṇu-bhakti. Reciprocally, Śrīla Sarasvatī Ṭhākura and his followers esteemed the numerous Vaiṣṇava brāhmaṇas in”

“मनाला रुचणारे शब्द उच्चारणारे स्तुतिपाठक सहजपणे मिळतात; तथापि सत्य कटू असले तरी, प्रत्यक्षात आपल्या भल्यासाठी सत्य बोलणारे मात्र विरळ असतात. रावणा,”
