Although I was born in England and currently live in the USA, I consider myself an Aussie. After all, I spent most of my life in Australia, and I have that cool Australia accent!

My first six books were all non-fiction, focused around business or finance, and written with the sole intention of generating more business. They were, in short, part of a marketing strategy. They were also, to my surprise, extremely popular. It turned out I had a knack for writing and making the complex simple.

I never set out to become a writer. And to convey how foreign this idea was, let me share with you a short (true) story: I was asked to speak at a Mortgage Lending convention sponsored by several big Australian banks. At the time, I had authored two books, both written for investors, and both in the top 5 in their category. I knew I was scheduled to speak after Kieren Perkins, an Olympic Gold Medal winner and Australian icon (not an easy act to follow). The MC began introducing the next speaker; he was a best-selling author and his books were incredible, and he was this and he was that … I honestly thought he was talking about someone else and I must be up after this best-selling author guy, who I admit, sounded pretty impressive. I was looking forward to hearing what he had to say. Then the MC said my name. Up until that point, I was writing books to help our clients and as part of our marketing strategy. I didn’t consider myself an author.

It was five years after writing my first non-fiction book that I decided I could write a novel. To be honest, when I tried, I found it difficult. Writing non-fiction or “How to” type books came easy, but fiction was another craft entirely. So, I set to work learning the craft, by reading a lot and writing a lot.

Now I write for pleasure. It’s fun and I enjoy it. I believe books, and the arts can shape the culture. I hope my stories entertain you, inspire you, make you laugh or cry, make you cringe or smile. Whether that’s just you or millions of “you,” then I’ve done my part to uplift the culture in some way.
