Authors for Indies

Tomorrow is Authors for Indies Day with hundreds of writers of all genres coming to their local bookstores. http://www.authorsforindies.com Check the listings for your area.

What's better than the smell of new books? You're strong. You can meet and greet authors, poke around, raise a hurrah for the independent bookstores without breaking your bank.

For my first paying job off the farm—not including my cut of doing cottage maintenance for people at the lake, raking, painting, washing windows—I first worked at an independent bookstore/fudge shop. I sometimes got paid but being offered to take wages in book or fudge my cash take home tended to be smaller than it could have been for those couple years of grade 9 and grade 10.

There may not be fudge but there will be refreshments and refreshing company at Books on Beechwood in Ottawa and 3 other area bookstores.

Come out and see what books we recommend you try for some new reading inspiration. It's on all day long but I'll be there 12 noon for a couple hours.

Launch Season

Walking for groceries on Wednesday we saw a familiar face. (Is this what it's like to meet yourself coming and going?) I knew a story was coming but I didn’t know about front page. The paper of March 19th 2015 is thanks to the Kitchissippi Times with the story on me by Anne Boys-Hope and the photos by Kate Settle. You can now read it from here

I competed at Battle of the Bards in Toronto and came home not the winner but it was a good experience and Deanna Young from Ottawa shortlisted.

Readings start in earnest this month with travels. At VERSeFest I was a reader on Friday with Stevie Howell, Giles Benaway and JC Bouchard. On its heels, launching the Cocoa Cabin anthology chapbook April 8th at At A Thing for Chocolate, 1262 Wellington Ave W. with Steven Artelle, Roland Prevost, Grant Wilkins, Natalie Hanna and Catina Noble.

Soon, I'm reading at Writers Fest which is moving to a new location on Sparks. (At the bottom I'm attaching all the events.)

Wed April 15, 7-9pm

Pearl
