Interview with YA Author, Martha Bourke: The Jaguar Sun

I am delighted to have my Twitter friend, Martha Bourke, with me today to talk about her novel, THE JAGUAR SUN. Martha grew up in Burlington, Vermont, often considered a hub of "free thinking." She was encouraged to write and be creative at a very young age. Martha also had her father's talent for languages, which later became her career. She spent fifteen years creating and teaching in foreign language programs for young children. She continued to write on the side, trying out a variety of fiction genres. Then she discovered YA - specifically, paranormal romance. She was hooked! Martha and her husband of thirteen years have carved out their own little piece of Vermont in the Massachusetts countryside. When not writing, Martha loves spending time with her animals (including a cat named Edgar Allan Poe), good music, thrifting, and adding to her Converse collection. She is currently working on book two of the Jaguar Sun Series, Jaguar Moon. Martha has generously agreed to provide a free e-copy of THE JAGUAR SUN for one commenter. All you have to do is comment or ask a question at the end of the interview to be entered to win.

Interview with Shawna Romkey, Debut Author, Speak of the Devil

I am delighted to have Shawna Romkey, with me today to chat with us about Speak of the Devil.

Shawna grew up around farms in the heart of Missouri but went to the University of Kansas, was raised in the US but now lives on the ocean in Nova Scotia with her husband, two sons, two rescue dogs and one overgrown puppy from hell. She’s a non-conformist who follows her heart.
She’s taught English at the university and secondary levels for close to twenty years and can’t quite fathom how all of her students have grown up, yet she’s managed to stay the same. She’s a huge geek and fan of Xena, Buffy, and all kick ass women, and loves to write stories that have strong female characters.

Shawna’s debut novel was just released and is a YA Paranormal Romance called Speak of the Devil, and the follow up, The Devil Made Me, will be released early 2014.

Character Interview: Suzie Sarnio from School of Deaths by Christopher Mannino

1. Where are you from? Did you have a happy childhood?

I’m from Damascus, Maryland. I’m only 13, so some people think I’m still a kid. When I was a little kid things were good. My family’s nice and I have friends. Things got really hard lately though, for three months I kept losing weight and everyone thought I was anorexic. It sucked. I really tried to eat, but it’s like Mom wouldn’t leave me alone about it. Turned out to be a lot weirder than anorexia. I wish that had been what it was…

2. Where do you live now and what do you do for a living? Is there something you’d rather be doing?

I’m a student at the College of Deaths. I’m learning how to reap souls. Yeah, you heard me, like a Grim Reaper. I do it because I’m forced to, at least for this year, and then I can go home. What would I rather be doing? Anything! I hate it here. Not only is the job super-weird and depressing, but I’m the only girl. It’s the first time in a million years they’ve had a girl Death, and they all treat me awful because I’m different.
