On Cis Het Assumptions

In the M/M romance genre as elsewhere in life, it’s presumed that the majority (both readers and writers) are cisgender heterosexual individuals. However, my personal experience suggests otherwise: Beyond gay cis men, a host of queer (largely bisexual, pansexual, or demisexual) individuals populate this space, many of them non-binary or elsewhere on the trans spectrum. When we discuss who has the “right” to write M/M, we often hear it said that most of the readers and writers are cis and het...

I love myself (& I never thought I’d say that)

progress-10272016

It’s been a little over a year since a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis scared the hell out of me. Immediately my mind filled with worst case scenarios: blindness, nerve damage, amputations… Today, it’s official that I’ve lost 106lbs (down from 356 to 250). My A1C (blood sugar) is in the healthy, non-diabetic range (5.5). I’m even taking half the diabetes medication (Glucophage) I was before.

Maybe someday I’ll be able to control the disease with diet alone. For some, that’s not an option. I know h...

A Tamed Tiger Is Still a Tiger

tiger

Maybe I should start at the very beginning. (Reliable sources–musicals, natch–suggest it’s a very good place to start.)From the word “go,” I have been obviously queer and trans, a strident tomboy who stared too long at beautiful women and played too rough with cute boys. Constant insistence that I conform, be a little lady, and mind my manners ensured that I’ve become a polite and charming adult–or so I’m told–but it did nothing to change the way I was wired. Even tamed tigers are still tig...

The Relationship Between Political Correctness, Censorship, and Inhibition

thin-iceIt comes up time and again these days… Has political correctness gone too far? Is censorship running rampant? Are we inhibiting meaningful contributions to society with PC run amok?

We live in a consumerist culture. Each of us acts as citizen and consumer on a daily basis. What we consume is dictated largely by popular media…and by Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, or any of the other social avenues that permit us all to interact. When we comment on an article or a friend’s pos...

Immortal Sins is OUT NOW!

Immortal Sins book cover; written by Clancy Nacht & Thursday Euclid, art by April MartinezImmortal Sins, co-written with Clancy Nacht, is out now from Loose Id! This novel is a real departure from the other work we’ve done together, the first in the Immortal Sins trilogy, and I’m so excited to share it with y’all. I’ve loved vampires from the time I was a kid, and I’m thrilled to finally get a chance to explore them in my writing.

The beautiful cover by artist April Martinez only begins to hint at the bold new take on vampiric origins and possibilities that we’ve tackled in this s...

My First Trip to the HRT Doctor

Thursday waiting on Dr. Vanek

Thursday waiting on Dr. Vanek

Following my previous posts about gender transition from CAFAB to male, I finally had my appointment with Dr. Vanek at Legacy Clinic on California Street near Montrose in Houston. I’ve been waiting months for this because the earliest new patient appointments for HRT are usually ages after that first, gut-wrenching phone call.

I have some tips for people seeking this kind of medical care–some practical things I wish someone had told me–and I’ll be explaining exac...
