“One great conversation can shift the direction of change forever.”
Linda Lambert

“Faction is that hybrid of documented fact and novelistic elaboration.”
Norman Mailer

“When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.”
John F. Kennedy

“Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Justice the founder of my fabric moved:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.
Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I shall endure.
All hope abandon, ye who enter here.”
Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy: The Inferno, the Purgatorio and the Paradiso

“The wisest are the most annoyed at the loss of time.”
Dante Alighieri

“After the Egyptian and Indian, the Greek and Roman, the Teuton and Mongolian, the Negro is a sort of seventh son, born with a veil, and gifted with second-sight in this American world,—a world which yields him no true self-consciousness, but only lets him see himself through the revelation of the other world. It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others, of measuring one by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity. One ever feels his two-ness,—an American, a Negro... two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder.

The history of the American Negro is the history of this strife, — this longing to attain self-conscious manhood, to merge his double self into a better and truer self.”
W.E.B. DuBois, The Souls of Black Folk

Linda Lambert Hello Readers,
My colleague and co-author, Mary Gardner, have just published Women's Ways of Leading: Revisited (2025). It is a fresh and new version of our Women's Ways of Leading (2009). So much has changed since then!
A bit about our history. We joined forces when Gardner, fresh from her work at Harvard was asked to take Lambert's position at Cal State East Bay in 1989, just as she was leaving to serve as a special envoy in Egypt. Upon her return, the two women discovered that they were soul mates and set about to reframe leadership by challenging its historic limitations. The result of this stimulating partnership was four provocative books on leadership, including the best-seller, The Constructivist Leader (1995, 2002, ). The friendship deepened, laying the groundwork for decades of research, writing and mutual learning.
Now comes Women's Ways of Leading: Revisited, the culmination of new insights into the unique qualities, characteristics, neuropathways, genetic and cultural structures of women.
We hope you ask for this new work at your local bookstore or on-line merchants. Warm wishes, Linda
