America's First Independence
America’s First Declaration of Independence America, a beautiful country whose true Founder is God. Under the rule of a tyrannical king George, III the young nation (colonies) suffered many injustices regardless of the color of their skin. The ethnic groups of the day were all affected by the “plunders at sea,” the “ravaged coasts,” the “burnt towns,” “unfair taxes and unfair trials,” “domestic insurrections, and all manner of oppression” just to name a few.
The Declaration of Independence from the tyrannical rule of King George, III was absolutely necessary!
The humbled young nation needed a new King. Under the counsel and guidance of the “King eternal, the only wise God,” men whom we called “the founding fathers” were inspired to set the stage for a “new America.”
There is something about “the freedom to.” It was God who created freedom of choice and placed this desire in every created being: The freedom to think; the freedom to simply be; the freedom to share love; the freedom to show kindness; the freedom to give and receive forgiveness; the freedom to serve ones country; the freedom to serve the true Founder, God.
Every person or group in bondage has a deep desire to be free whether it is expressed or suppressed. A slave can be chained in a dungeon, yet in the depths of his/her soul they will find a way of escape. This is often interpreted through the words of a song, through the power of imagination in viewing a better place and time, through prayer and Bible truths, and even a positive attitude towards others.
America craved freedom! They were willing to depend on the God, the King of heaven to live this freedom. America trusted in God’s power to lead and guide their decisions. America’s new King, God was and still is totally different from tyrant, King George, III.

America’s new King, God
Peter Marshall’s prayer before the U.S. Senate: “Lord Jesus, thou who art the way, the truth, and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that shall make all free. Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived. Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books. It costs too much to be hoarded. Help us see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to please to do what is right.”

America's Second Independence
America’s Second Declaration of Independence
America had a tyrannical King and declared her independence. That’s understandable. America chose a new King, God who was and still is loving, just and kind. So why would America want to be independent of such a loving King? Oh well some say it’s good old pride. America is no longer a baby. She is all grown up now and she wants to do her own thing.
Steps America took to declare her independence from her loving King, God.
"Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers, and our Country."
“The 22 word prayer was declared to be unconstitutional and led to the removal of all prayer from public schools in the case Engel v. Vitale. This little prayer acknowledges God only one time. The Declaration of Independence itself acknowledges God 4 times.” “Within 12 months of Engel v. Vitale, in two more cases called Abington v. Schempp and Murray v. Curlett, the court had completely removed Bible reading, religious classes/instruction.
This was a radical reversal of law - and all without precedential justification or Constitutional basis. The Court shared its justification for removing Bible reading from public schools. The Court at this time declared that only 3% of the nation professed no belief in religion, no belief in God. Although this prayer was consistent with 97% of the beliefs of the people of the United States, the Court decided for the 3% against the majority.”

God's Grace Still Holds America
God truly sheds His Grace on America! “America! America! God sheds His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.” Look around you today. What happened between America and her King, God? He is no longer welcome everywhere. In times of trouble America calls on Him. In times of calm, America shuts the door in His face.
Abraham Lincoln was asked if he thought God was on our side. He responded: “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side. My great concern is to be on God's side.”
One thing remains the same: America’s King, God is still merciful to her and those who seek Him are still able to find Him even today.
Listen to the words of French writer Alexis de Tocqueville, after visiting America in 1831, "I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests--and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning--and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution--and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!"
I believe America is great because her God is greater!
Gracious Father in heaven, the one who loves America and caused her lands to be fertile, please help us to return to the “secret of our genius and power;” help us to return to You, our King eternal, the only Wise God! This is our solemn Declaration of Dependence, Amen.
Pray for America, God is still Gracious! Written by D. Rowe©

Remembering Our Nation
Remembering Our NationThe Independence celebration of our nation draws near, so let it be a time of reflection, unity, healing, showing respect and thanksgiving. Any nation that forgets God will remain divided, full of strife and hurt. In spite of the political climate of this country let’s join together and celebrate remembering that America is called a land of the free and the home of the brave. It’s country that is considered a place of justice, liberty, happiness and peace. It was Martin Luther King Jr. who quoted Amos 5:24, “But let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream,” to stress the importance of justice. Each of us has our part to play in the execution of justice, so play your part well. The greatest peace one can have is a peace of mind. The greatest freedom one can have is the right to choose and speak. The greatest way to have happiness is help others as we pass along.
This Independence is a time to think of what I can do to make my nation better instead of waiting on others. It’s a time to reach out and help someone struggling to survive or to find some meaning to life. Let’s use our God given talents to help and they will make a difference in place where we are.

A Prayer for Our Nation
Heavenly Father,
God of all nations, thank you for this country so vast and beautiful. Let your peace reign in our hearts and over the country. Be with those that govern and those that are governed. Impart wisdom to ‘the powers that be’ as they meet and deliberate and make decisions. Forgive us as a nation for the failures that cause a divide, the negligence that leave some bitter, the stubbornness that leave some fighting causes that lead to dead ends, and unwillingness to show love to all races, color, class and cultures. Guide our nation from this day forward we pray. Amen.
