Autumn's Here

Don't seem to be able to embed Youtube videos here, so a link instead:

Autumn's Here by Hawksley Workman.

I love this guy. I mean like massive apocalyptic devastating LOVE. I sort of accidentally forget for a while, then out of nowhere BOOM like a punch in the face: Hawksley Workman exists and the world is ok. I'm glad it's autumn now. I mean, not glad for the crazy weather (I live in the middle of nowhere in the country and all the fields around my village are underwater because of the floods) but glad it's getting closer to hat and scarf and mitten time. I hate the summer, I deal really badly with the heat and short nights and it fucks with my brain so I can't think properly or concentrate or get any kind of motivation to do anything. Days should be 72 hours long, but even then I'd probably just spend 72 hours a day avoiding stuff I need to do. Blah.

Probably shouldn't be looking for more things to distract me from work and studying and writing but: book recommendations? I hardly read any more because I'm so tired all the time, but I commute for four hours a day five or six days a week, and that's a lot of dead time spent staring into space like a zombie with earphones.

Things I don't like: rape (including "omg rape but I kind of like it so I think I'll stay with him and we'll be all cute and in love" because wtf), swoony mushy romance, buff Magic Mike type guys, unrealistic dialogue, things being too perfect, and stories where all the women are two-dimensional shrieking bitches.

Things I like: really solid realistic dialogue, plot that involves more than just a set-up for lots of bumming (especially horror/sci-fi/drama/thriller/whatever with characters whose gay is totally secondary to the point of the story), well-written female characters and straight guys alongside the romance (don't rule out straight or lesbian romances - I'll read and love anything if it's written well), and slightly crap sex. Cramp and stubble burn :D but I know anything less than perfect is rare in this kind of fiction. I just don't get it when everyone looks like a Chippendale and fireworks go off every time, I can't relate to that at all. I like crooked teeth and middle age spread, I'm so much more interested in "real" people than blow-up dolls. I'm flexible on this though, I don't remember ever reading a romance book where the people weren't described as good looking. I'm just being picky because I'm sure there's the ~perfect book~ out there somewhere, I just haven't seen it...
