The Best Travel Insurance for Digital Nomads and Travelers: Why SafetyWing Is the Only One You’ll Ever Need
If you’ve ever traveled long-term, you know the three golden rules:
Flights will get delayed.Bags will get lost. And yes… you’ll eventually need travel insurance. But here’s the catch: finding the best travel insurance is almost harder than choosing your next destination. Most policies are expensive, confusing, and full of fine print. That’s exactly why I switched to SafetyWing—and why I think it’s the only travel insurance you’ll ever need.

Students studying overseas

The Best Travel eSIM for China: Stay Connected Without the Hassle
Traveling to China can be an unforgettable experience — the food, the culture, the historical sites. But if you’ve ever tried using the internet there, you’ve likely run into the “Great Firewall.” Popular apps and sites like Google, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and even YouTube are blocked. That’s where a good travel eSIM, paired with a VPN bypass, becomes a total game-changer.
After testing various options, I’ve found that Airalo is the best travel eSIM for China. Here’s why — and how you can get $3 off your first purchase with the discount code PONTE3 https://try.airalo.com
Why You Need a Travel eSIM in ChinaNo Local SIM HassleWith an eSIM, you don’t need to visit a local store, show your passport, or fumble with activation steps in Mandarin. You simply scan a QR code, and boom — you’re connected.Instant Connectivity
As soon as your plane lands, you’re online. No waiting, no hunting for airport Wi-Fi.Use Your Own Number for WhatsApp and Apps
With an eSIM for data only, you keep your primary SIM active (if your phone supports dual SIM), so your existing WhatsApp and SMS stay uninterrupted.
What About the Great Firewall?China blocks many popular websites and apps, but here’s the kicker: some eSIM providers use international routing that bypasses the firewall entirely.
Airalo’s eSIMs — especially the ones labeled “Asia Link” or “Global” — often allow access to Google, Instagram, and WhatsApp without needing to install a VPN. That’s because the traffic doesn’t pass through local Chinese servers, so it’s not subject to the same censorship rules.
Note: While this isn’t officially advertised, many travelers (myself included) have reported being able to use restricted apps without issues on Airalo eSIMs in China.
Why I Recommend AiraloAffordable and transparent pricingEasy to install — just scan the QR code and follow the promptsGreat coverage throughout China, including rural areasBypass restrictions on most social platformsPlus, Airalo has a simple, user-friendly app that makes it easy to top up or switch plans.

Lost City Uncovered in Peru: A 3,500-Year-Old Civilization Resurfaces

Imagine stumbling across the ruins of a once-bustling city, hidden for over 3,000 years.
That’s exactly what archaeologists have done in Peru.
In early July 2025, experts revealed the discovery of a 3,500-year-old city named Peñico, located in the Barranca Province, just a few hours north of Lima. This incredible site offers a glimpse into one of the oldest civilizations in the Americas and might just change how we understand Peru’s ancient past.
Let’s dive into what they found, why it matters, and what it tells us about life thousands of years ago.
Where Is This Lost City?Peñico is tucked away in Peru’s northern Lima region, about 200 km (120 miles) from the capital. It sits at around 600 meters (1,970 feet) above sea level, in an area that bridges Peru’s Pacific coast and the inland Andes.
This unique location suggests it may have once acted as a vital trading hub, connecting different regions and communities.
How Old Is It?The city dates back to somewhere between 1800 and 1500 BC.
That makes it over 3,500 years old—older than ancient Greece and Rome. In fact, this city was built not long after the famous Caral civilization, another ancient Peruvian culture that existed around 3000 BC.
Peñico may have been constructed as Caral was declining, making it a kind of spiritual or cultural successor.
What Did They Find?So far, archaeologists have uncovered 18 major structures.
These include:
Ceremonial templesResidential complexesA large circular plaza at the heart of the cityIntricate stone and mud architectureOne of the most fascinating parts is the central plaza, built in a circular design, with sculptural reliefs decorating the surrounding structures.
This layout isn’t just beautiful — it shows the city’s advanced urban planning for its time.
Artifacts from a Forgotten EraThe site is also full of remarkable artifacts that bring this lost city to life.
Among the discoveries:
Clay sculptures of humans and animalsNecklaces made from bones, seashells, and clay beads“Pututus” – large conch-shell trumpets used in ceremonies or communicationEach item reveals something about the daily life, beliefs, and traditions of the people who once lived here. These were not simple villagers — they were part of a complex, spiritually rich society.
Why This Discovery MattersPeñico isn’t just another ancient site. It’s a key piece in the puzzle of early American civilizations.
Here’s why:
1. A Cultural BridgePeñico seems to have acted as a connection between the coast and the Andes, possibly even the Amazon basin. Its location makes it a likely trade and cultural exchange center.
2. Filling a Historical GapThis city was built in a “transitional era” — after the decline of Caral and before the rise of the Chavín civilization (around 900 BC). It helps explain how urban life and organized society continued, even as older cities faded away.
3. Climate ResilienceThe Caral civilization may have collapsed due to climate change and droughts. The fact that Peñico was built afterward shows that people adapted, moved, and rebuilt — proof of resilience that echoes even today.
Who Found It?The excavation was led by Dr. Ruth Shady, a legendary Peruvian archaeologist who also helped uncover the Caral site back in the 1990s.
She’s been working for years to shed light on Peru’s oldest civilizations and believes Peñico is just as important.
She was joined by Marco Machacuay, an archaeologist from Peru’s Ministry of Culture, who helped unveil the site to the public in July 2025.
Their work has taken almost a decade of research and excavation — and it’s far from over.
Public Opening and CelebrationsThe city of Peñico is scheduled to open to the public this July, during a traditional Raymi festival — an ancient Andean celebration of the sun.
Visitors will be able to walk through the ruins, explore the ceremonial spaces, and imagine life in a world that existed long before Columbus, the Inca Empire, or even the Pyramids of Giza reached their full glory.
Drone footage has already captured breathtaking views of the site, showing terraces, plazas, and ruins set against a dramatic desert landscape.
What We’re Learning About Ancient PeruPeru is often associated with the Inca Empire and Machu Picchu — and rightly so.
But discoveries like Peñico remind us that Peru’s history runs even deeper.
Civilizations were thriving in this region 1,000 years before the Inca even existed. They built cities, created art, conducted rituals, and developed trade routes — all with no influence from Europe or Asia.
This is a reminder that ancient America had its own intellectual and architectural achievements, completely independent from the Old World.
And One Day… I’ll Be ThereAs a travel vlogger, this kind of discovery gives me chills.
It’s not just about ruins — it’s about stories, human resilience, and connections across time.
One day, I’ll travel to Peru and visit Peñico myself. I’ll walk among the temples, touch the ancient stones, and share the story with you — through my camera lens and my voice.
And whether you’re traveling to Peru, Thailand, Kenya, Italy — anywhere in the world — I highly recommend using Airalo eSIMs to stay connected.
They’re fast, easy to set up, and super reliable — perfect for travel vloggers like me and explorers like you.
Use the discount code PONTE3 to get $3 off your first Airalo eSIM order.
Just go to airalo.com and type in the code at checkout!
Final ThoughtPeñico is more than a forgotten city.
It’s a message from the past — a reminder that human history is bigger, older, and more fascinating than most of us realize.
Stay curious. Keep exploring. And always stay connected.

Why the Dazu Rock Carvings Might Be China’s Coolest Ancient Secret!
The Dazu Rock Carvings are located in the mountains near Chongqing, China.
They aren’t as well-known as the Great Wall, but they’re just as impressive.
Once you see them, you’ll wonder why more people don’t talk about them.
These amazing carvings began in the 7th century, during the Tang Dynasty.
Over time, especially between the 9th and 13th centuries, people added more and more.
Today, there are over 75 different sites with carvings around Dazu.
However, the most famous ones are Baodingshan, Beishan, and Nanshan.
They are open to visitors and show the best examples of the carvings.
What makes these carvings truly unique is how they bring three major Chinese religions together:
Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism are all shown in the same place.
This is special because most ancient religious sites focus on just one faith.
Here, you can see statues of Buddha, Laozi, and Confucius side by side.
It’s a beautiful message of peace and respect between different beliefs.
Even though religion plays a big role, these carvings aren’t only about gods.
They also show everyday life, like cooking, farming, reading, and raising kids.
This makes them feel real and easy to understand.
It’s like seeing stories about regular people, not just important leaders.
One of the best places to visit is Baodingshan.
A monk named Zhao Zhifeng worked here for over 70 years!
He helped create more than 10,000 stone figures on a large cliff.
One famous carving shows the Wheel of Life, a symbol of birth and rebirth.
Another amazing statue is the 31-meter-long Sleeping Buddha—so big and peaceful.
Many of the carvings still have bits of original paint, which is very rare.
You can see reds, blues, and golds that make the carvings come alive.
The small details in faces, clothes, and tools are incredible.
It’s hard to believe they were made without modern machines.
Over the years, people in the area worked hard to protect the carvings.
Even during wars and political changes, they stayed safe.
In 1999, the carvings were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
That means they are considered important to all of humanity.
One reason many tourists haven’t heard of Dazu is the location.
It’s not near big cities like Beijing or Shanghai.
You have to travel from Chongqing, which takes extra time.
But that also means the area is quiet and peaceful.
There are fewer crowds, so you can really enjoy the art.
Earlier Buddhist art often showed gods that looked serious and far away.
But the Dazu carvings are full of emotion and human feeling.
You can see sadness, joy, fear, and love in their faces.
This helps visitors feel more connected to the stories being told.
You don’t need to be religious or a history expert to enjoy Dazu.
The carvings speak to everyone, no matter their background.
Many have stone captions that explain what’s happening in each scene.
It’s like ancient comics that teach lessons through pictures and words.
These carvings were made by regular workers and artists, not machines.
They used tools to chip away at the rock, often high on cliffs.
Some carvings are so high up, they needed ropes and ladders to reach them.
It was hard and dangerous work, but they didn’t give up.
Unlike some ancient monuments made for kings, these were made for everyday people.
That’s why the scenes show common activities like cooking or helping family.
The carvings share simple lessons:
Be kind, tell the truth, respect parents, help others, and avoid bad habits.
Even though the carvings are over 1,000 years old, the lessons still make sense.
They remind us to live with respect, balance, and love.
In a world full of stress and noise, these quiet carvings offer wisdom.
They teach that how we treat each other is what matters most.
Today, experts are using technology to protect and study the carvings.
They want to make sure future generations can enjoy them too.
Maps, digital photos, and special tools help keep the carvings safe.
If you visit, you’ll see how well they’ve been cared for.
The Dazu Rock Carvings may not be the loudest or most famous site in China.
But they offer something special—quiet wisdom, deep beauty, and real-life stories.
If you’re looking for a place that touches your heart, this is it.
You’ll leave with more than just photos—you’ll leave with a new way of thinking.
