Knackered but Kvelling

This is the eleventh post in my ABCs of Writing series: Post K Ever since I published my book, I’ve been wanting to write a post about my experience with self-publishing. I also wanted to add another installation to my ABCs series. So, after browsing through far too many lists of “words that start with k” (which […]

Publication Day: Legend of the Stone

I never thought this day would come, but it finally has. I am officially a published author, and you can now buy my book, Legend of the Stone. Right now. (Yes, right now!) So you need a little convincing? Here’s the pitch: A thousand years ago, the Ruination turned Eleytia to stone. The sky burned […]

My Journey

I thought about posting this without saying anything about the fact that the last blog I wrote was nearly two years ago. I don’t have a reason for that gap, other than that I’ve had a lot of other things going on, and, more, that I just didn’t feel like I had anything interesting to […]

Idioms: Precision Worldbuilding

This is the ninth post in my ABCs of Writing series: Post I I’m a fantasy writer, but before I was a writer, I was always a reader. I guzzled down fantasy and sci fi novels like a kid who has been introduced to pop for the first time. I can’t begin to tally up the hours […]

Hope: When Habits Fail

Hi there, do you all still exist? I promise that I still do even though it’s been almost nine months since my last post. Life just kind of gets away from you sometimes, doesn’t it? It’s been a particularly long and winding nine months for me, filled with changes in family, career, and friends, and […]

Glossaries: A Writer’s Toolbox

This post discusses the writing tools I use/have used. I'm not referring to language tools like figurative language, allusions, or foreshadowing, but literal tools, both the software and the physical. I think it's fascinating to hear how people actually go about writing. Maybe you will too!

Seattle Quest

A client contracted with me to write a walking tour for tourists visiting Seattle. The tour introduces visitors to different iconic locations around Seattle in the guise of a "quest," a creative, fictional story that accompanies the real-world facts.

Fear: What If I Fail?

This post has not been easy for me to write. Failure and the fear of failure have been constant companions (rather, boogiemen) for me throughout my writing journey, and I was afraid (I recognize the irony), that I wouldn't have anything useful to add to this topic. I don't know the magic words that will make those fears go away. I don't have a secret recipe for landing an agent and becoming a bestseller. However, I do have this small suggestion: Maybe, just maybe, you're focusing on the wrong numbers.

The format of this post is a bit different compared to my other ones, which contain a short list of writing tips and tricks. This post does have […]
