At the start of August, I spent ten full days at a meditation retreat in rural Georgia. I spent those days without interacting with anyone directly, without my phone or computer, without music, w...

The York Hoard: 8/12/2026

colorful illustration of a dragon lying on a hoard of books with the text I Talk!

I returned from my 10 day silent vipassana meditation retreat on Sunday, and splash landed back into life like an Apollo capsule reentry. 😭

(Yes, I’ll be writing some separate posts about my experience at the retreat!)

Work did not pile up too high, but then, I work for myself, so I guess I managed myself pretty well. Maybe I’ll even get a decent performance review this year!

High on the “reentry list” was writing this post. It’s been hot minute since I updated you folk on what’s going on w...

Tomorrow morning I’m headed up aways to east Georgia (the state) for a ten day meditation retreat. This is something I’ve wanted to do for years, but have not been able to schedule for various re...

Yes that is a drawing I made a few years ago. I have a book with art reference photos…that is still in pristine condition…

Last Thursday, my friend and I went on a scheduled “Creativity Day.”

The York Hoard: 5/28/2026

The Merry Month of May

May is always weird for me, a time of trauma, transitions, and STUFF. This year was a good one, overall, but very busy. Along with ALL THE WRITING (orz) the organization I work for, Novo Collegian Alliance, helped current graduating students of New College of Florida hold the fourth annual alternative graduation, [NEW] Commencement 2026!

We also held two screenings in Sarasota of the heart-rending documentary about the New College takeover, First They Came for MY College. Ca...

Thirty Years in a Day

“Shake” was short for “Shakespeare” - Garland Alvin York, 1923 -1996

I always hate to be the bearer of bad news.

I think of that often when I talk about grief, especially after being made an adult orphan at such a young age. Everyone hopes that time heals all wounds, but alas, the best metaphor I know of is that we grow around them, like a tree growing around a nail in its trunk. Our lives get longer, bigger, more complicated but the nail is there, rusting in the dark.

So it is I introduce this fa...

THE CAR!!!

So if you don’t know (why would you?) I’ve been car-less since about 2010. Yes, really. Yes, I mean “not owning a car.” Yes, yes, NO CAR AT ALL.

I know that in Florida that is near insanity, since about 98.9% of the state’s “public transportation” is hardly worth either description. But I made due, primarily because of the luck of living in Midtown Tallahassee, which is a neighborhood sandwiched between the suburbs and downtown. If you followed Keely’s Way, you have seen a lot of it vi...

Pretty much at the moment of my birth, my mother decided that she had a writing prodigy on her hands.

The hilarious part is I didn’t actually learn how to read until I was about five, maybe six, y...

It’s been a few years since I created the Deck of Life. Not that it existed in any format outside of my scrivener file for it, but it was there…haunting me…

To cut through the mystery: it is a car...
