My current book is iHunt, which is a book about monster hunting in the gig economy.

I've been doing a lot of contract and gig work recently. As some of it fell through, I noticed the stark domino effect it has. If something you've been working on falls through, you have to scramble more to make up for lost time, while working to make more pay forward. If any of that work falls through, you have to work even harder to make up for THAT lost time, while working to make more pay forward.

The whole thing is a racket, where the worker is always at the mercy of the employer, and no amount of work is never really enough.

I'd just finished my first novel, Blood Flow, and wanted to do something for a change of pace. I thought to myself, "What about urban fantasy tropes like monster hunting? How would they work in an environment like that?" The whole thing grew out of that consideration. Blood Flow is a very modern take on vampire mythology. So why not address the other side of that equation, and examine the people that hunt vampires? (less)

That's so important to me, because when I've struggled, I've found solace in art. It's amazing to be partly responsible for someone else's ability to move forward. (less)

Sometimes right after I release something, I need time to wind down. I need to do other things. Sometimes, though, I just start digging in to something else. I’m currently writing a new tale, which is tentatively titl

“Unless you’re an amusement park owned by terribly influential corporations who get to bend and twist laws to suit their whims. The world renowned Movieland theme park is known for bending and twisting laws to suit their whims. They basically write copyright laws. They’ve redistricted their property to make sure not a single police precinct has jurisdiction inside the park.”

“As an employee, you’re not supposed to say the bricks come from modern day Iran or modern day Turkey. No, they come from the vague Middle East. You have to keep the story loose enough that people can’t start poking holes in the fiction. That’s how movie magic works—specificity is the bane of authenticity.”
