Now With Maps!
The Community College mysteries now include a map of East Syracuse!
If you're like me, you may already have an idea of what East Syracuse looks like. You might have pictured The Utopia or Nylunds or the campus of Crane Community College. While the new map doesn’t show all the roads or the homes of all the characters it does show how East Syracuse looks in my mind, the general layout of town and images of buildings like the Utopia, the buildings at Crane Community College, Nylund’s, the Bump ‘n’ Grind, and I Don’t Know.
If you already purchased the books in the Kindle version, look in Amazon for the update. If you purchased a print version of an earlier book, you can now purchase Furloined Letter with the new East Syracuse town map!
Purchase your copy of Furloined Letter, book 3 in the Community College Mysteries, today!

Spring Showers Bring May Flowers
We've had some very tempestuous weather for the last few weeks, high winds and plenty of thunder and lightning.
Though I've always loved storms, we have two rescue dogs who are terrified of thunder, lightning, and strong winds. Needless to say, they were beside themselves through our recent storms. I've been trying a little experiment with them. Any time there is a flash of lightning, the rumble of thunder, or the wind makes the house creak, I give the pups a "thunder cookie" in the hopes that they'll someday associate stormy weather with their favorite treats. Our little boy is very food motivated and the experiment is working pretty well for him. He still gets upset but I think he feels less anxious than he used to. For our little girl it has been less effective and if anything she seems to be getting more anxious.
Whether the experiment works or not, it's nice to have some quality time with my fur-kids, cuddling and giving them lots of treats!

Sweltering Summer!
This summer has been one of the hottest in years!
The temperatures hovered in the 90's in the Midwest for many days before things finally cooled off. Now that the weather is humane I'm enjoying sitting out in our lanai (named in homage of course to the Golden Girls).
As the temperatures have see-sawed I've been thinking about some of our by-gone family traditions of summer. At Memorial Day we always had a family picnic at a park in a small town to the south, a tradition that started in the 1940's when my great-grandparents moved north to work in a factory during World War II, leaving my great-great-grandparents in their hometown. The park was about the halfway point between the two towns, which must have seemed much farther apart back then!
Though our family eventually gave up the traditional Memorial Day picnics, I still enjoy taking my niece and nephew to the little ice cream shop across the street and reminiscing about what the park was like when I was their age. I'm sure it bores them to tears! Hopefully the ice cream makes up for the dull stories :)
What were you favorite summer traditions when you were young? Have you kept up those traditions, or (like mine) have they fallen by the wayside?
Enjoy your 4th of July!
