The Dinosaur Princess Arrives!

Hail and welcome to Her Imperial Highness!

Or whichever “princess” the title of the third volume of The Dinosaur Lords Trilogy refers....

2017-08-07 Mouse Meets The Dinosaur Princesses! cropped 002 IMG_20170807_145036197

“Dad? Umm, Dad? Why are you leaning this heavy thing against me?”

*heavy sigh*

Pictured:  my very first actual, physical copy of The Dinosaur Princess, which arrived today; and also Mouse Dog, who arrived about a year and a half ago.

Actually Pictured:  shameless clickbait! Since experience has shown that the only thing that’ll get people to actually visit the damn blog is posts and pictures of the adorable animals who make up the Milán Pack.

Anyway – at last I have my hands on the book! It all feels almost real now.

You can, of course, get your own hot little hands on a copy of The Dinosaur Princess in a mere eight days, by preordering it in hardcover or ebook form!

Appearing Soon: The Dinosaur Princess!

And also me! Repeatedly.

Yes, the third novel of my Dinosaur Lords Trilogy, The Dinosaur Princess, will be out from Tor on Tuesday, August 15th, 2017! That’s two weeks! Whoa!

And of course it has a wonderful Richard Anderson cover. Need you even ask?

DinoPrincess-cover

Not pictured: any actual dinosaur princesses. Unless that Ceratosaurus is one.

Richard Anderson takes certain artistic liberties sometimes. For some reason, I don’t mind.

You can pre-order your very own hardback copy by clicking the title or the image above, or here, and for Kindle right here.

It’s gotten some pretty sweet advance notices, from io9 and The Verge. (In both cases, scroll down.) The Critiquing Chemist has reviewed it favorably, and thrown in a glossary as a bonus. And here’s a fine review from Publishers Weekly! (That’s three for three there. Yes.)

So that’s a promising start. Fingers crossed it does well – if you’d like to see more books by me. Specifically, more adventures on Paradise. And most specifically of all, the second trilogy which will complete the saga of Karyl and Shiraa!

Of which more anon.

So, signing? Yeah, I’ll signing.

Dinosaur Knights Prepare The Way!

Finally!

2017-07-20 Dinosaur Knights Ride In! 001 IMG_20170720_182653442

Some random Parasaurolophus, Big Sally, Snowflake, Shiraa, and Camellia help me celebrate the big arrival!

(Yes, I know they’re the wrong colors. Work with me, here.)

Yes, my author’s copies of the mass-market version of The Dinosaur Knights arrived yesterday! And here it only came out on May 30. (I’m told the Tor warehouse screwed up sending them to me; thanks to Claire “The Editor” Eddy’s also-excellent assistant Kristin Temple for getting me some.)

And what are those dino-riding knights preparing the way for? The Dinosaur Princess in hardcover, of course! Due out August 15th! And available for pre-order by clicking on the title. You can also pre-order it in Kindle form, though I can’t decently recommend you pay the absurdly extortionate price of $13 for a freaking ebook. If you insist, though….

But Book I, The Dinosaur Lords, is now available on Kindle for $3! Which is actually a reasonable price, and what I wish they’d charge for this one.

(Warning! Keep reading only if you want to see Cute Cat Pictures!)

In Which I Dance

Most triumphantly! And therefore, of course, also roar:

You knew this was coming. Hope you covered your ears.

I have not one but two triumphs to celebrate, and they are T. rex-mighty ones indeed!

1. Yesterday I paid off the mortgage on my house, which I bought in 1987.

2. I just a handful of minutes ago sent off the proposal for a brand-new novel – the proposed first volume of a Dieselpunk trilogy – called The Diesel Magi, to my Super-Agent, Kay McCauley, at the request of my editor at Tor, Claire Eddy.

And I am stoked.

Fan Art Meets The Dinosaur Lords!

And it’s pretty sweet!

Karyl & Shiraa At The River Hassling by Joe Stansbury

Visit scenic Nuevaropa, where you can get gored and eaten by armored dinosaurs. In the rain!

They don’t call this world “Paradise” for nothin’!

Illustrator Joe Stansbury just posted this on Twitter today. He’s a professional illustrator – you can see more of his work by clicking his name riight there. But he’s kindly chosen to do some excellent fan art for The Dinosaur Lords!

You can see a full-size version of the image, which he describes as a “mock cover,” by clicking on the small version above. Or hereIt depicts my protagonist, Voyvod Karyl Bogomirskiy, mounted on his beloved Allosaurus Shiraa, leading his famed White River Legion of war-Triceratops to the attack across the River Hassling, at the opening Battle of Gunters Moll.

Thanks, Joe! I really appreciate it.

In Which I Appear – On Video!

So That American Tolkien GuyGeorge R. R. Martin Himself, just posted a link to this video. It's a mess (term used advisedly) of your favorite Wild Cards authors new and old, appearing onstage at George's Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe - in the personas of our characters!

/p>

Yes, I'm in this too. What? You thought they'd keep me away from the limelight?

Every year our Super-Agent, Kay McCauley, throws a cocktail party for the Wild  Cards crew in Santa Fe. Last time, in August of 2016, for various reasons a bunch of people, new WC contributors especially, decided to come in from out of town to attend. While far from all of them wound up here onstage, the attendant signing in the art gallery next door (George owns the whole building) was probably the largest gathering of Wild Cards authors in history! Until even more turned out for MidAmeriCon II, the Kansas City Worldcon, the next week. (Although I was not among them.)

In Which I Return To The Scene!

But not, I trust, of any crime! (That anyone knows about?)

JWL 2017 - Wild Cards Edition!

They do get cool posters, don’t they?

Is it more great Brad Hamann work? If not, somebody please set me straight on whose it is.

So, remember how last spring I was Guest of Honor at the 2016 Jack Williamson Lectureship at Eastern New Mexico University, Portales NM? Yeah, well. I’m not this year, but fellow original Wild Cards Mafia member Melinda Snodgrass sure is! Along with frequent Wild Cards contributor and all-around good guy Michael Cassutt!

Wild Cards: Game On!

Huzzah! Tor Books finally let the shoe drop on Publisher’s Weekly: nine (9) (Nein? Doch. ja!) new Wild Cards books are in the offing.

Yippee-ki-yay, jokers.

Turn of the Cards original cover

And yes, the title is a reference to this. Because I have no power over late-Sixties/early Seventies rock.

Wild Cards, Reread!

That American Tolkien GuyGeorge R. R. Martin his own bad self, is after us Wild Carders to pimp this big time. So here goes!

wildcardsreread_seriestop

Ta-daa!

Yes, our (and my!) publisher, Tor Books, in association with Tor.com, is bringing us one of their popular Rereads, this time of the whole damn Wild Cards series!

In Which I Bring Glad Tidings. Twice!

First off, I just a few minutes ago sent the copyedited manuscript for the upcoming third installment of The Dinosaur Lords Trilogy, The Dinosaur Princess, back to Tor, having reviewed it, made the few necessary changes, and found it Good.

DinoPrincess-cover

This one. Not pictured: a princess. As far as I know.

Still, it’s another face-biting-offly awesome cover by Richard Anderson, so I’m gonna roll with it, and advise you to as well.

But wait! There’s more! Oh, my, yes.

Wait for it – drum roll….
