FIVE STARS are rare . . .

BIO

“Tell me a story,” has been my question since birth.

Since I love them so much, what better way to share the fun and interesting things I've learned than in writing stories myself?

I'm a “retired” Navy wife who has lived all over the United States, including Hawai’i.

Raised in San Pedro, California, a melting pot of many languages and cultures, I've traveled the world meeting people and laughing my way through ridiculous circumstances.

I love history, music, books, reading, my terrific family, amusing friends, travel opportunities, and irony.

A New York Times and ECPA bestselling author of five novellas and a Navy SEAL novel, I'm the biographer of Mrs. Oswald Chambers and Lettie Cowman, as well as an essayist in Utm

I keep writing; even if it isn't very good, I keep typing in the words. You put in enough hours, something will turn up.

Or, I give it up and take a walk, read a book, spend time with my family. Sometimes you need to clear you head and let "the boys in the basement," do their magic. http://michelleule.com/2012/02/17/fin...(less)

Highway 12: a Road of Grace?

Can Highway 12 be a road of grace?

I asked myself that question from time to time.

I learn many lessons from driving on that four-lane, fast-paced highway.

Most of those lessons have to do with grace.

Too often, those lessons include my failures to be graceful.

What can Highway 12–or any road–teach us about spiritual life?

Many things.

I only feel safe driving 55 mph down this busy road (which has no div

I first read Barbara Pym's books 40 years ago after I asked a librarian, "What do I read now that I've finished all the Jane Austens?"

I read straight through all the books, at the time wondering why I didn't have a char woman nor attend jumble sales!

Friends recently returned from visiting the Saudi Arabian Mt. Sinai, and that's what sent me to this book.

A good overview of why this

SO interesting and theologically fascinating.

Okay, it was hard to wait until the end to find out what happened with the police sergeants, but otherwise so interesting.

Sigh.

I absolutely love Lynn Austin's Old Testament fiction series. Glorious.

But I cannot seem to tolerate any of her historical fiction ever since.

This is yet another novel. Well-written, yes, but I didn't care for any of the characters, found the ol

“There are people one knows and people one doesn't. One shouldn't cheapen the former by feigning intimacy with the latter.”
Tony Horwitz, Confederates in the Attic: Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War

Oswald Chambers
“God did not direct His call to Isaiah— Isaiah overheard God saying, ". . . who will go for Us?" The call of God is not just for a select few but for everyone. Whether I hear God’s call or not depends on the condition of my ears, and exactly what I hear depends upon my spiritual attitude.”
Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

Oswald Chambers
“If sympathy is all that human beings need, then the Cross of Christ is an absurdity and there is absolutely no need for it. What the world needs is not "a little bit of love," but major surgery. If you think you are helping lost people with your sympathy and understanding, you are a traitor to Jesus Christ. You must have a right-standing relationship with Him yourself, and pour your life out in helping others in His way— not in a human way that ignores God. ”
Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

Oswald Chambers
“God does not give us overcoming life; He gives us life as we overcome.”
Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

Oswald Chambers
“Naturally, we are inclined to be so mathematical and calculating that we look upon uncertainty as a bad thing...Certainty is the mark of the common-sense life. To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways, we do not know what a day may bring forth. This is generally said with a sigh of sadness; it should rather be an expression of breathless expectation.”
