It's the most standalone series in the Universe since Alex's life (Alexandria is the main character of Gamemakers) doesn't intersect with any of the others and mostly happens inside the magical technology that makes the Second Year Contest possible. It's written in a LitRPG style, but you don't have to be a fan of that sub-genre to enjoy the story.

When I put out the trilogy that combines all the story lines of the other characters in an "Avenger" style later this year, she'll only have a minor, but very important part, in the story. (less)

“But what if things aren’t what they seem? As you said, there is no truth in the Digital Sea.” “Eventually we must cling to some reality,” Mekena said. “Even if we are not sure it is the most real. One can wait for a whole lifetime for the reality we want and miss the one we have in our hands.”

“Hmm…” Melandre acknowledged the comment, then spun back, yelling at Andrake. “Quit dawdling!” She accessed her son's system and sent a flash of light across his eye-screens. “Didn’t have to do that, mum,” said Andrake as he shoved the hacking wand in his pocket and rubbed his eyes. “I was almost done.”
Thomas K. Carpenter, The Cageless Zoo

“tunic, with breath that could warp glass, grinning a toothless grin.”
