In 2006, poet and novelist Rob Smith was presented with the Robert Frost Poetry Award from the Frost Foundation of Lawrence, Massachusetts. This was the first public recognition of a body of writing that took shape during his years as a Presbyterian pastor and later as an instructor at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Since that time he has published three volumes of poetry and a chapbook. His more widely known books, The Immigrant’s House (Drinian Press, 2012) and Eyes on Mars: a Poetic Memoir (Drinian Press, 2024), have been catalogued in the Library of Congress.

For Rob, poetry marries emotion to time and space. In this sense every poem is a story which searches to find fulfillment in self-awareness.

His new book is out: Shrader Marks: Keelhouse. It's two books for the price of one. It contains an updated version of Night Voices and its sequel, Keelhouse. When I started reading Keelhouse, I could not put it down, staying up way past my bedtime. The updated version of Night Voices is well worth the re-read, but if you haven't read Night Voices, you won't miss a thing because they are now together!
