Biography

Graeme Davis has both his MA and PhD from University of St Andrews. After a brief foray into accountancy, Graeme lectured at University of Strathclyde, Manchester Metropolitan University and Northumbria University. He is presently a lecturer at Open University and Professorial Research Fellow at University of Buckingham, as well as series editor for academic publishers Peter Lang (Oxford) with monograph series in Contemporary Linguistics, Historical Linguistics, Stylistics, Archaeology and Education.

Graeme’s research interests include the syntax of Old English, Old Icelandic and Old High German, alongside Mediaeval Literature and History. He has interests in Lexicography and in English Dialectology, in Academic English and Teaching Methodology, and in some topics in Children’s Literature and Modern Literature.

In addition Graeme contributes to research in Archaeology, particularly around the Mesolithic site of Blick Mead in the Stonehenge World Heritage Site. His particular interests are in British Isles Prehistory and in Anglo-Saxon and Viking sites.

Graeme has supervised PhDs in Linguistics, Archaeology and Education, as well as supported around three dozen young academics in the publication of their first monograph, often a development of a PhD thesis. He is a journal editor, including for Buckingham Journal of Language and Linguistics. He has served as external examiner for three universities and external validator for more than a dozen, and has an interest in Quality Assurance.

Graeme is keen to popularise academic endeavour, including by outreach to local communities and media coverage of research. He is a lecturer on board Fred Olsen cruises on topics as Vikings, Anglo-Saxon Literature and Stonehenge. He has published literary criticism on the work of popular writers including J K Rowling and Dan Brown.

Bede's Death Song

My article "Bede's Death Song" published in The Literary Encyclopedia. I make the point that the song is not in fact by Bede but is somewhat earlier than his death in AD735.
