Thanks so much, I'm glad you loved the book! As for the inspiration, I used to live in a neighborhood of Brooklyn where you would see celebrities around fairly often...I started to think about how strange it was that we were living our very regular lives alongside people who were living extraordinary (or extraordinary-seeming) lives, and the dissonance that created. Then, the voice of my narrator kind of popped into my head one day--she was so angry and bitter and envious! I had to start writing her thoughts down...so I did, and that's how the whole thing started. Thanks for your question! (less)

The Man by Laura Sims
"The Man is about a woman, Judith Stanley, a photography student that keeps seeing a man in all her self portraits. It’s based on real life stalking cases from the 1960s, but it is also about so much more than that.

“Men can never keep their violence to themselves.”
Laura sims, How Can I Help You

“But wouldn't it make us sisters, the actress and me? Wouldn't it be an act of communion with her, in the end? Could I ever make her see it that way?”
Laura Sims, Looker

“Her look makes me feel as if she's turning me over in her hands, inspecting my spine and pages for wear, thumbing my table of contents. Or what she thinks is my table of contents.”
