An avid fan of horror since before she was saying her alphabet, Melissa D. Ellis writes spine-tingling Young Adult and New Adult Paranormal novels in hopes that you’ll always look under your bed before sleeping at night.

She studied Music Therapy, Theater, and English at Tennessee Technological University and even received a degree in Christian Counseling from Heritage International Bible College and Seminary.

When she’s not writing, she’s making a living as a voice instructor and musician, enjoying the outdoors, conjuring up scary ideas to write about, quoting movies, changing diapers, running carpool, being a mom, drinking a lot of coffee, or eating.

Melissa makes her home in Crossville, Tennessee with her husband and three boys.

I am one and the same. I could go through the long boring story, but will simplify my answer with a quick response. My given name is legitimately "Melissa D. Ellis" and in 2011, I signed with a publisher that ultimately screwed me. The publisher I signed with (Passionate Writer Publishing) did a horrible job in editing, book cover, promoting... I never received a royalty check and the books I ordered for events, I never received as well. In fact, I ended up cancelling a ton of book signings and other events because they wouldn't send me ANY material! I wasn't even refunded the hundreds of dollars I spent to receive my products. Even after a ton of emails complaining and asking to end our contract, I never got a response.
So I decided to return to the control I had before when I self-pubbed. In order to do this I had to adopt a pen name...Olivia K. Wilder. And at last, I was able to pay my bills again with a residual income. (I was a single mom at the time.) Then I learned that my old publisher had actually gone bankrupt. I returned to my given name.... after all, it IS my name.

I should really blog that mess sometime and share it....
