Creation vs. Criticism
So here is a little bit of something I caught on the show, One Tree Hill.
It is about creating work–art, actually, and dealing with people writing their opinions online about whatever they hear, read, watch, etc…
Mia: Listen to these comments. “You rock. Where can I buy this?”
Lindsey: That’s really great, Mia!
Mia: “This song is awesome. I’d love to see this chick naked.” Ew.
Haley: It’s just one comment.
Mia: Wait, there’s more. “Another pop princess who can’t sing or play. She looks like she sme...

‘Edging Into Magic’ Excerpt
IVY
With jittery hands, I begin my third attempt at pulling back my hair. I have kept it down for the past two weeks; my large, soft curls that almost graze my waist, hanging over the outline of my newest tattoo. My favorite tattoo, because when it is finished I will have wings.
No friends or family know about this event quite yet, although I am sure they have had an inkling it was in my ‘one day’ plans. Well, today is that day. Apparently, though, my hair still wants to keep my secret, tanglin...

Life. And dot dot dot
Life has kept me busy. But I’ve been busy writing/editing among other life crap I’ve been dealing with. Sad things I have no desire to talk about.
The dot dot dot part — I am going to post the first two chapters of Edging Into Magic tomorrow if I can get around to it. If not, it will be the next day. This book was tough to write because so much wanted to be told but in a novella you need to keep things simple. Life in Avalon is just as complicated as real life is… But it’s all together and tid...

How Much Can I Write?
I alwaysalwaysalways have stories floating around in my head. Full novels, finished. And it’s not even hard for me to write ( *knock on wood* ) when I sit down to do it. The words flow out of me and I rarely get what most people believe to be “writer’s block.”
When I was at 30k words, I became stuck. I was in that middle part (or at least what was the middle then … a 60k word book became over a 100k word one!) and I’d never been there before and didn’t know where to go. But I jumped ahead and...

Books About Faeries
It’s been mentioned a few times that my descriptions of Avalon and my fae are much like other work that is already out there. A) It’s a bit hard to make them so completely different to where they turn into another species, which leads to … B) I use mythology to develop everything in my books so it’s likely other things have been written like what I write.
I just took a picture of my ‘faery’ bookshelf. What’s interesting is that I haven’t even read the third book of the Wicked Lovely series bec...

Antiquing
Yesterday, on the way home from the convenience store where the guy was super duper nice, I spotted a sale in someone’s yard/garage (not sure what kind of sale it technically was … the sign just said “sale”). I asked the kid if it was all right if I stopped for a minute. A few years ago I found a coffee table that an ex and I restored (it was amazing and he has it. I had the chance to grab it out of our storage but I didn’t. I’m kicking myself now, of course. Grrr…) and I hoped to find anothe...

People Helping People
Today, in the parking lot of a local gas station/convenience store, someone asked me if I knew where Cane Street was. I had no clue. With subdivisions and such, I don’t know all the residential streets even though I’ve lived here for quite a number of years.
I immediately told him that I could look it up and give him directions from our location. He accepted my offer and made a comment about needing to get a smartphone lol
It took maybe two or three minutes, tops, chit chat included, and then t...

Monopoly Never Ends…
Right now, my daughter is attempting to play Monopoly Junior by herself. It’s kind of funny because she has never seen anyone play and the directions are missing so she definitely hasn’t read those. The guy adores Monopoly. He never loses. But I tell him he never wins, either. Not really. Everyone just gets so sick of it that they quit. A forfeit (in my book) isn’t a *real* win.
Is any of this my point? No. And yes, in a way.
(New picture at the end of the post … not my point, either, but still...

Two Weeks to Form a Habit
I had a discussion recently about this. I’d heard it took two weeks to make a habit, but I was also under the impression that the whole ‘rehab’ 28 days things had to do with habits. So I was unsure, but now I have it straight — 28 days to break a habit & only 2 weeks to make a habit. This is me, attempting to … make a habit. A blogging habit!
I’ve made a promise to myself to post every day for the next fourteen days. My hope is that I will create enough of a habit to at least think of it throu...

Intro to Ivy
I wanted to post the first chapter (and I know I said I would Tuesday but Thursday and Tuesday … they’re honestly the same thing in the life of a writer — I’m not the only one who hates deadlines!
)
I argued back and forth with myself as to whether I should post the entire chapter or not and I voted for ‘not’
It’s too long and, yes, something happens but it’s way too much for a blog post.
So instead you get a taste of what Ivy is like as compared to A/K … or any of my other characters. Hollie a...
